The emphasis of this years #MentalHealthWeek is the ability to #GetReal. It's important to be able to share how we are really feeling, but have you ever wondered what to say when someone is being real with you? The following article gives some information and research behind how to provide the most effective and supportive responses - validation! "The key to offering support messages that provide validation is to acknowledge the other person's feelings without trying to sugarcoat a bad situation, add spin, or convince someone to feel differently about his or her distress."

Our mental health is so important! Many people are finding it difficult to cope with all the changes we have seen in the recent weeks and the need for physical distancing. This past weekend may have been particularly challenging as we faced our new normal (for the foreseeable future) without our typical Easter traditions. If you are struggling to cope I encourage you to reach out to someone - a friend, family member, or a professional. Here at TLC Counselling, I continue to offer therapy services either by telephone or video conferencing (through the secure, encrypted platform Doxy.me). I am accepting new clients! As always, if finances are concern, please speak to me about my sliding fee scale.

Self-care can look a little different for everyone. Here's a great graphic that shows the different categories self-care can encompass. For some of us, our self-care routines have stayed largely intact through this pandemic. However, for a large number of us, our self-care routines have become challenging to maintain. And that is okay! (Let's be real - exercising, finding quiet space, or even having a bath is not easy with everyone under on roof all the time!!). Adapt as best you can and remind yourself it is okay to change things up as needed.

COVID-19 UPDATE Due to the increasing advisories around social distancing, I have made the decision to suspend in-person sessions effective March 30th. I want to keep all my clients safe and help eliminate the spread of the virus. To my current clients: Your appointment is NOT cancelled, however we will need to conduct our session either over the telephone or video chat. The choice is yours. I will be contacting all clients in the comings days to make arrangements. ... I am still accepting new clients! As always, if finances are a concern, please talk to me about my sliding fee scale.
