Shunpukan/Toronto Aikido COVID-19 UPDATE To all Shunpukan Dojo Members We want to inform you that we are taking further steps to help protect our students and dojo community from COVID-19. The latest news and expert reports suggest that we should not stay open due to the risk of spreading the virus.... Although we felt that it was probably still safe to train weapons only, as we have for the past few days, we feel that based on what experts are saying that we should close the dojo for the next 2 weeks. As the COVID-19 pandemic is an evolving situation, we will continue to monitor advice provided by Health Canada and Toronto offices of Health, the WHO and the CDC.We will re-evaluate on March 29th and send an update at that time. . By doing this the Shunpukan dojo community is doing its part toward fighting the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We encourage everyone to use the videos posted on Facebook and YouTube to continue their practice. If you would like we can post items to practice on Facebook or otherwise online so you can keep up. For those with fees due on April 1st, we appreciate your continued support. Feel free to address any issues with me, once you receive your fee update. The Dojo is only as strong and as vibrant as it is because of its students, and as such, I thank you for your patience; trust and continued support of the dojo and the art of Aikido. I wish you all good health in what are trying times for many. Osu, Alan Sensei

To all Shunpukan Dojo Members We want to inform you that we are taking steps to help protect our students and dojo community from COVID-19. We will be maintaining classes as usual for the time being, for those who wish to attend. However we will be focusing on weapons training over the coming weeks. This is so we can continue to train but with less human to human contact and greater distances between people.... We will be implementing higher and more stringent and more frequent disinfection of critical contact places in the dojo. Hands MUST be washed with hot water and soap before and after every class. Weapons will be wiped down after each session as well. Kids classes will also be geared towards weapons as well. This will allow them some form of training as well as things to do during the march break. Kids are more than welcome to attend the adult classes during this time of weapons only training. To stay a viable entity we urge everyone to continue with paying fees as they become due. It would be a shame if these events meant there is no longer be a dojo for us to come back to. We understand this cannot go on forever but your support for as long as you can manage will be greatly appreciated. We ask that all members (including family), ensure that they are COVID-19 symptom free (any of; dry cough fever headache sore throat) before deciding to come to the dojo to train. If you are experiencing symptoms, please let us know (when they started and your last attendance at the dojo). Also please be aware of who you have been in contact with over the past 2 weeks. If any of those people are not feeling well please self quarantine and do not come to the dojo. As the COVID-19 pandemic is an evolving situation, we will continue to monitor advice provided by Health Canada Mississauga and Toronto offices of Health, the WHO and the CDC. Any further changes to these plans will be in accordance with the advice of the above organizations so please monitor your email and our Facebook page frequently and particularly prior to leaving for class. The Dojo is only as strong and as vibrant as it is because of its students, and as such, I thank you for your patience; trust and continued support of the dojo and the art of Aikido. I wish you all good health in what are trying times for many. OSU Alan Sensei

Osu, It is with a sad heart that I announce the closing of the doors at Toronto Aikido...and then opening at a new location at the same time! And its just across the street! A little smaller mat space, air conditioning in summer and heat in winter (opposite from the old place).... With the support of our student body, we expect very limited downtime (less than a week), and hope to be holding a grand opening event very shortly! Just need to setup shape and decorate! It will take time to find the charm of our old home, however we will maintain the same strong teachings as always. Watch for announcements as we move forward! And feel free to contact me if free to lug, clean, paint, or roll.... Osu! Alan Shumak See more
