If you'll be at EGU 2020 and work in the North Atlantic, consider submitting an abstract to the joint TOSST and HOSST session, "Interdisciplinary and intercultural approaches for addressing scientific and socioeconomic challenges in the North Atlantic region". The session aims to bring together a wide range of sub-disciplines to take an interdisciplinary and intercultural approach when addressing global concerns. Check it out here: https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU20/session/35676
It's August folks! We're finally back from a break with another #TOSSTieOfTheMonth profile! This month, we're taking a look at Scott! Scott grew up in Toronto, Canada and has been interested in biology for as long as he (or his mother) can remember. He grew up swimming and fishing in the lakes of Ontario and exploring nature as a curious child. Scott received a B.Sc. in Biology from Western University, and his M.Sc here at Dalhousie University in biology, focusing on long-te...rm changes of fish within coastal ecosystems. Nowadays, Scott is working towards his PhD with Erin Bertrand, focusing on how marine microbes influence the distribution of nutrients in the ocean. When he's not looking into tiny organisms in the ocean, Scott loves to cook ("Thai curry is my specialty!") and enjoys getting out to any of Nova Scotia's beautiful beaches when possible ("Recently in a wet suit and holding a surf board"). Next week, we'll be talking more about Scott's PhD research. To get in touch with him for that curry recipe or surfing tips, pop over to his twitter @scottmccain5 or DM us! #TOSSTieOfTheMonth #Microbiology #MarineBiology #Oceanography #MarineMicrobiology #Academia #TOTM
Big news from Canada, where legislation was passed to ban whales, dolphins, and porpoises from being bred or kept in captivity.
#TOSSTie Manuel uses his experiences gained from his research exchange and summer schools to work with sharks in Cabo Verde!
