The Village of Radium Hot Springs that you know and love was not incorporated until 1990 but early mining activities like the Lead Queen mining claim up Frances Creek were established as early as 1900. Early development included a "large stable, bunk house, cook house, manager’s house, office and blacksmith shop". Frequent avalanche activity eventually prompted the construction of an aerial tramway that would allow work to be carried out all year long without needing to cross... the slide path. Today marks the first day of Canadian #HistoryWeek2020 and we are exited to share some of the rich history that we have here in the Village of #RadiumHotSprings. Did you know? In 1841Sir George Simpson, the governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, made the first recorded visit to the springs. He bathed in a small gravel pool just big enough for one person.... Roland Stuart, an Englishman, originally purchased the springs for $160. The Aquacourt was the first major post-war building project in the western parks. This year the #KootenayNational Park celebrated its centennial birthday, #Kootenay100. Stay tuned for more #CanadianHistory facts all week. #HistoryWeek2020
