This week is Fire Prevention Week. Did you know most fires start in the kitchen while someone is cooking? There are some things we can all do to help avoid accidental fires in our homes and apartments: Stand by your pan: stay within arm's reach of the stove when you’re cooking and never leave the room. If you have to leave the room, turn off the element. If you're baking or roasting something, check on it often and set a timer to remind yourself to check on your oven.... Wear tight-fitting clothing when cooking and keep all flammable items away from the oven, including oven mitts, trivets, dish towels, and curtains. Keep children and pets one (1) meter away from the oven when it's on. If you see a flame in your pan, slide a lid over the top of the pan and turn the element off. Never try to extinguish a grease fire with water. If you see flames in your oven, keep the oven door closed and turn the oven off. Do you have questions about fire safety and prevention?
