The public consultation period for the Five Year Financial Plan is open. Members of the public are encouraged to read the proposed bylaw and ensuing guidance document as passed in first and second reading on November 16, 2020. Traditionally, the Town of Princeton has published a mailer and published an ad in the paper to educate the public on the financial plan. In the spirit of open and transparent government, the Town of Princeton was originally planning to host a meeting... with the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, Area H to introduce both budgets and solicit public input. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is no longer possible. The Town has produced a public information video, located at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvU9jbOPv_k. The video guides the listener through the bylaw itself and a presentation on the budget numbers and methodology. The Town will undergo a public consultation period open until Sunday, January 31, 2021. All submissions are requested to be in writing, and submitted to Town Hall either by email to [email protected], mailed to PO Box 670 Princeton, BC V0X 1W0 or dropped off at the front mail slot in front of Town Hall at 151 Vermilion Ave.

Snow, rain and storm drains! The forecast is for the snow to change to rain later. Should this occur, residents are requested to make sure any storm drains fronting their property are cleared to avoid ponding/flooding. Also, when cleaning snow, please do not shovel it onto the road and/or drains.

I know there is a lot of frustration and confusion as to what we can and cannot do during these COVID times. Remembrance Day celebrations today are limited due to the rules set out by the public health order that has been issued by the Provincial Health Authority. The Princeton Legion has worked hard to ensure that our community unlike so many others will have a celebration today. There are no political motives or conspiracy behind the celebrations planned today. The Legion, ...Town of Princeton and RCMP have worked hard within the rules set out to ensure that we will have a ceremony. The Similkameen Spotlight will have a livestream of the event on their Facebook page and we ask that you please join us all there. It has not been an easy decision to scale back today's events but necessary for our Legion and community to pay respect to our Veterans in a safe manner within the guidelines of the public health order. Thank you for your understanding and please join us at: facebook.com/SimilkameenSpotlight - Mayor Spencer Coyne

One hundred and two years ago the guns fell silent marking the end of the Great War. World War One, known as the Great War, was supposed to be the war that ended all wars. Sadly, only two decades later, the world was embroiled in yet another global conflict, a war that pitted an extreme ideology against the rest of humanity in a struggle for freedom from the shackles of tyranny. The sacrifice of those men and women who answered the call to arms grows further and further from... memory, yet the specter of conflict has not faded with time and our youth still answer the call to defend our rights and freedoms. On November 11, we pause and give thanks to those who have answered the call past and current to defend our way of life against those who would see it stripped from us. This year, unlike years gone by, we cannot all gather in ceremony and give thanks to those who have served our community and nation. COVID-19 has added complexity to even this sacred ceremony. This does not mean that we forget. It does not mean that we cannot give thanks. It only means we must do it in another way. At 11am, no matter where you are or what you are doing, stop and observe a moment of silence. Remember those who answered that call from World War One to the war in Afghanistan. Remember the first responders who keep us safe. Stand alone or with your family. Stand in your home or on your front step. Take that moment and show respect to so many who have done so much for us today. On behalf of the Town of Princeton, I want to give thanks to all who have served our community and our nation. It is through your service and sacrifice that we stand here today in a free and democratic nation. -Mayor Spencer Coyne
