#TBT Throwback Thursday! Over 7 years of training in Martial Arts. These students will be completing their first part of their Black Belt Grading on Saturday. We are so proud of you!

Tips when praising your child! Belt Grading Edition! When you use the right words of encouragement, it can have powerful positive effects on kids. Here are some ways you can encourage your children positively and effectively ... 1. Praise sincerely and honestly. If praises are not perceived as sincere and honest, children won’t feel very encouraged. Insincere praises are not only ineffective, but they can also be harmful. 2. Be specific and descriptive. Instead of sweeping praises, encourage your children to use descriptive and specific comments. The less general or generic the praise, the more likely it is factually correct and perceived as sincere. 3. Praise their effort and the process, not their ability. When children are praised for their effort expended in doing it, they learn to attribute the success to their effort. The effort is a quality that we have the power to control or improve through hard work and practice. These children will therefore focus more on developing skills than on pursuing results.
