What a peaceful and beautiful photo! While on assignment, Bailey enjoys hiking around new locations and doing outdoor meditation. "This photo is while I was working in Bella Coola and took a 2 hour road trip with some friends to do some touring. Here at TravelNurse Canada, Breast Cancer Awareness Month now hits closer to home than before as our longtime internal team member, Brianne Nikula, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the age of 30 in December 2018. We are pleased to say that Brianne is on the other side of her diagnosis and will be going into one year of no evidence of disease this December. We asked her to share with you how to stay aware and practice living a healthy, vibrant life with preventative measures.
As part of "Take A Hike Day", check out what one of our #workationwarrior did while on assignment! "Hey there! My name is Meredith from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I currently practice #workations in British Columbia. This photo was taken on an all day hike in Bella Coola with some of the hospital staff. My method of self care on contracts usually consists of connecting with nature, hiking, relaxing by a beach or lake, and finding a corner of the shared housing for a yoga mat. I try my best to find others in the community to hike along with, or encourage fellow nurses to join in! I also try to find a place in the community to enjoy a sunrise or sunset. There’s no better way to refuel than connecting with others among nature."

It's "Make A Difference" Day! Read below to find out how somebody made a difference in Lauren's day while she was on a #workation! "While on an assignment in Hazelton, BC I had an amazing experience. I love mountain biking and when I heard there were trails less than 1km from the hospital I immediately started looking around town for a bike. I stopped a kid in the street to ask where his bike was from, I asked staff at the hospital ... no luck. Then a few days later a woman w...alks up to me outside the hospital and says are you Lauren? Want to use my bike? I was just coming off 5 shifts and I must have looked like a crazy person - I could have hugged her (but let’s be honest - hugging strangers during COVID isn’t exactly smart). From then I rode that bike every day. I explored trails right behind the residence where I was staying. I had so many bug bites but it was so worth it. Playing outside, riding my bike in a beautiful new part of BC was the perfect way to take care of my physical and mental health while I was away from home." See more

Jenna B., RN, has some very helpful tips below for travelers while they are on their #workation! 1. Explore the local nature. Do the hike, run where the locals run, play in the ocean, lake or river. 2. Make friends, or meet new people outside of work. Even if it’s a short contract, it is so helpful for me to connect with the people in the community. It helps me feel like I’m at home.... What are your tips?
I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind. - John Diefenbaker Today we give tribute to the lost heroes who lost their lives in war. We will remember those who granted us our past, present and future freedoms.
