On the tenth day of Christmas my true North gave to me, another amazing bathroom transformation. Here’s another sneak peak of our Burwash project. Swipe thru to compare some of the before and after shots. It should be noted that @charlottehenrydesign worked extensively with the homeowners to develop a plan for this large en-suite. The result, a beautiful inviting master bath where there was once a walk in closet. ... While we aren’t exactly complete on this build, or this bathroom (waiting on shower glass), we are just too excited not to share! There’s a lot more to come, stay tuned! A big thanks to Melissa and Toby for choosing Treeline to deliver their dream home. #carpentry #yellowknifeconstruction #treelineconstruction #construction

On the Ninth day of Christmas my true North gave to me, a selection of walnut cutting boards. We love working with different products and materials; forever trying to challenge ourselves and develop our skills. One of the things we like to do in our spare time is experiment with different woods and epoxy resins. Here you can see part of the process involved for batch production of walnut and coloured epoxy resin cutting boards. ... For now, these are prototypes. We’re still waiting for someone to hit us up to build a river table . #carpentry #epoxyresin #epoxycuttingboard #walnutcuttingboard #walnut

On the eighth day of Christmas my true North gave to me, a live edge mantle just in time to hang some stockings. We get asked frequently about live edge products, so we wanted to do a feature to showcase some of the work that’s involved. Whether you’re looking to tackle a project like this DIY, or hire someone to do the work, here’s our process. First, we find a tree Then, we harvest it in 8-10’ sections. For the next year or two, we season the logs. Next step is using a ...bandsaw mill to cut the logs into slabs. Then, we age for another two years. Finally, a few years later, we can get going on prepping the slab: clean off bark, cut to desired width and length. Next, we cut out a mortise on the back side to receive the 1 square stock that will become the wall bracket. Once the piece is ready, we do our final sand, fill cracks and defects (for this project we used a black epoxy), then spray with 5 coats of clear. We then weld up our brackets. We’ve found rebar works well for the pegs as the ribs on the rebar help hold onto the wood in the pre-drilled holes of the mantle. This system locks the mantle or shelf into place, but with enough leverage, it can be removed. We mount the bracket to the wall, then install the mantle or shelf, and voilà. It’s that easy This mantle was a nice little addition to our Burwash reno... more to come

On the seventh day of Christmas my true North gave to me, another interior transformation. Scrolling back, we apparently didn’t get too many photos of our Banke reno. However, we did manage to snap a few pics of the staircase, which ended up becoming a bit of a feature in this home. Now it may not look like much, but there is actually quite a bit going on with these stairs. ... The old stairs were carpeted with housed stringers. But, when we went to install the new vinyl flooring, the stairs looked bulky and too crowded in the stairwell. So, we decided to rip out the old and build new stairs with notched stringers Swipe thru to compare. The old stairs had visible framing along the sides vs the new stairs with no visible framing allowing the stair treads to run cleanly into the side walls. This only buys a few inches, but it made the whole stairwell feel much more open. We ordered powder coated steel spindles and contemporary newel posts from @spindle.factory. Then milled custom handrails to match the new clean look. We opted for the Benjamin Moore cabinet paint and sprayed all of our millwork pieces for a durable finish. Once again, we used formed vinyl stair nosings to match the new flooring and fab’d some custom lengths for the floor transitions. We’re really happy with how this whole project turned out. Although it may have ended up being more work, it was the right thing to do for this home. After all, it’s all in the details. We always enjoy working for this OG client, and can’t wait to get back in the new year for the next phase. Thanks again Sandra. #carpentry #yellowknifeconstruction #stairs #stairbuilder #contemporary #treelineconstruction

On the sixth day of Christmas my true North gave to me another amazing deck. The homeowners invested a lot of love and time into this one! @keatinghs wanted something more than your standard pressure treated dimensional lumber, so he picked up a hole pile of cedar. He then painstakingly milled down and sanded each piece you see here. We removed the old vinyl siding and decking, then installed the pre finished ship lap siding for the veranda. This immediately transformed t...he front of this home. Then, we re-surfaced the deck with new 2x6 cedar boards. Swipe through > to peep those deck boards... Now you may be asking yourself, But wait! Where are the fasteners to secure those deck boards? Well, when we get the opportunity to install these beautiful deck boards, naturally, we take it to the next level. So, we utilized stainless steel hidden fasteners that would typically be used for composite deck boards. We finished the railing with alternating slats to match our freshly installed skirting, and added a couple rows of galvanized piping. The clients put a lot of time and consideration into every bit of this project. Notice the galvanized industrial stair treads, those are designed to take the gravel and snow off your boots as you stomp up the stairs This was a lot of fun to do. And while we may not be done on this project, we are thrilled with the results so far. We can’t wait for next season, more great things to come out of this site. Thanks again Brianna and Keating! #carpentry #yellowknifeconstruction #deckdesign #deck #deckbuilding #deckbuilder #cedar #contemporarydesign

On the Eleventh day of Christmas my true north have to me. A bright and fresh interior reno for this OG client. We cladded the ceiling with t&g pine, installed wide plank white washed maple hardwood, new baseboards and painted everything a fresh white. Check out the clean flush mount floor registers. Thanks so much J for using Treeline. You have an incredible knack for design, it’s a pleasure to help bring your vision to life. @ Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

On the Tenth day of Christmas my true north gave to me, a contemporary concrete hearth. While this one is actually in our own home, it was still a really fun project from 2019. Swipe -> through to see some of work that goes into something like this. ... Started with welding the 10m rebar cage. And, we built the form work using melamine. It allowed for easier removal and gave a smooth finish Then mix concrete and pour. Now the fun part: grinding. We took the initial top layer down to expose some of the aggregates. Next, we wet sanded until we reached about 3000grit After the grinding and sanding were completed, we moved onto polishing. I employed the same method of refinishing granite countertops using felt buffers and Italian stone polish; and, I’m pretty happy with the end result. Finally, the product testers scrutinizing the quality and strength. I think they liked it. @ Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

On the Ninth day of Christmas my true north gave to me, another amazing kitchen transformation. This little space was a bit of a challenge to design. We wanted something that felt open, yet allowed ample storage. Swipe through to see the before and after pics. Clients chose some very nice custom cabinets; gunmetal blue base cabinets that matched the new appliances, and alpine white uppers. We finished it with a beauty quartz countertop and white subway tiles, new vinyl plank flooring, and of course, or standard lighting upgrade with LED puck lights. Thanks again D&P for the opportunity to work on your home! @ Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

On the eight day of Christmas my true north gave to me, a quick little deck job for a furry client. Swipe through to see a couple before pics and progress shots. We had a blank canvas, so we tried to add a little shape to the deck with a curved feature; just to do something a little different. Sienna treated lumber used for framing and deck boards means this deck not only looks great, but it’ll last for years to come. On the seventh day of Christmas My true north have to me, a sweet patio at the BK Throwing it back to the summer, some of you may remember the awesome patio we prefabbed and installed at @theblackknightpub. This was a fun project. Swipe thru to see some of the behind the scene action. We took a lot of care and consideration in the pre construction phase, so that every panel of deck and railing would be interchangeable. Using simple solutions for interlocking the deck panels... and pockets for the posts to sit. We used sienna treated lumber for the framing and decking. And, wanting to compliment the BK interior, we contrasted the wood with painted black steel for the guardrails. We welded rebar and flat stock steel to make the panels. Man, was there ever a lot of cutting, grinding and welding that went into that! The jigs sure helped when repeatedly welding 300 plus pieces of rebar. And, in case you didn’t know by now, Bk went all out with their interior reno’s too. We made a custom bar top out of maple and stained it a dark walnut to match the existing decor. Finished it off with a wet sand and clear coat to give it a deep shine that’ll withstand. Thanks BK for the awesome work! @ Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

On the sixth day of Christmas my true north brings to me, the Maple Job. We had the incredible opportunity to work on this client’s bonus room. We utilized natural maple ply with real hardwood edging for the window and door jamb returns; custom milled a very clean looking maple 1x4 casing and baseboard and installed cork flooring. We ended up biscuit joining all the mitres to keep them tight for years to come. Working with a clear natural finish means everything had to b...e spot on Swipe through to see some of the natural beauty in that wood. I love the colours, so much character. Thanks so much L&N for including us on your home reno. This is still one of my personal favs! @ Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

On the fifth day of Christmas my true north brings to me, a shed. But not just your typical shed. This shed is a clean and simple design, but with the Treeline flare: Shingled shed roof, aluminum fascia, tongue and groove pine soffit, fibre-cement siding (custom colour matched to the house), and custom plexiglass windows to allow for natural light. Not only does this shed function as useable storage, but it complements the home and yard, creating a cohesive outdoor space. Also, check out the new stairs and landing. We mimicked the fence design from our other job, but utilized some sienna treated lumber to add some contrast to the natural pine. @ Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

On the fourth day of Christmas my true north brings to me... Another kitchen! This beautiful design comes to us from @charlottehenrydesign. Here we have IKEA cabinets with a classy quartz countertop. There was a few trick details we added to this one, new LED puck lights and pendants, custom install of the farm house apron sink, trim, floating shelves and a sweet little cutting board pull out. We were trying to get the most out of the dead space above the microwave. So,... rather than a filler strip, the boys whipped up a discreet little pull out to stash some cutting boards. Also, check out those clean floating shelves. Manufactured, painted and installed in house. I really need to dig up some before pics from this kitchen, it was a stunning transformation. Thanks so much J&A for including us on your home renos. @ Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

On the Third day of Christmas my true north gave to me, an amazing kitchen renovation. Here we have a beautiful kitchen refresh in an incredible home. Stained maple cabinetry. Quartz countertops, integrated appliances, engineered tile flooring and grey subway tiles going all the way to the ceiling. We also removed the bulky fluorescent lights in favour of our LED puck lights. We do this on most of our kitchen renos, not only are they a nicer light, but they sit so flat t...o the finished ceiling, they blend right in. I really loved the clients choice in countertop on this one. Looks like a soft grey that compliments the rest of the colour palet, but up close it popped... Swipe through to check out the close up This was a great project for some very patient clients! Thanks A&M for the opportunity to work on your home. @ Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

On the second day of Christmas my true North brings to me...sunny, warmer days? I wish. While we dream of warmer weather and those summer vibes, check out this awesome deck and fence job we completed this summer for some great new clients. They had a vision, and let us apply some Treeline creativity. We set the fence boards horizontally between the posts. This allowed a visually appealing finish for both sides of the shared fence. We scribed the bottom boards so no kiddos... or dogs would sneak out. We also extended, and ultimately resurfaced their existing deck. This way we could scribe tight to the rock so there was a seamless transition from the deck into their bedrock back yard. Finally we wrapped it up with a massive stair case and walk way to allow access, wood storage and a wider path for lugging canoes. Thanks H&F for letting us create such a wonderful space and work on your beautiful home. -> swipe through to see the difference between cutting deck boards close enough and taking the time to scribe to the rock... no more loosing toys under that deck @ Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
