Today’s featured athlete is Dawson Sheehan! Dawson started swimming at a young age and eventually took up cross country and track in Junior High. Having a background in swimming and running, he figured triathlon would be a perfect fit. After signing up for a local triathlon at Lake Chaperone at age 12, he was hooked. The endurance along with the competition caught his attention and each race he took part in after that left him wanting to improve his skills and continue to c...ompete. He started racing competitively at age 14 and never looked back! His goals include qualifying for the Canada Summer Games, competing for the podium at Canadian Nationals, and qualifying for a spot on on Team Canada at an Upcoming World Championships. [Fun Fact: In his first two years of competitive triathlon, he was able to qualify for the Alberta Summer Games and the Western Canada Summer Games. Today’s featured athlete is David Vanderkley! In 2008, David was watching the Ironman rerun in November, and watched people transform their lives training for this one event and he said to himself that he will attempt a race next summer. His background was competitive swimming, so he started off in the pool at the TLC in Spruce Grove. He signed up for the Element Triathlon in Spruce Grove (sprint distance) and raced with his mountain bike. During the ride, the slower swimme...rs (but faster cyclists and runners) kept encouraging him on. It was such a positive experience, that he went out and bought a road bike and trainer, it proved to be one of the best investments of [his] life! In 2017, he completed Ironman Canada in Whistler. He is grateful that through this sport he found some great people that he has trained with and have become such close friends. See more
