City of St. Thomas, Ontario needs Brad Jones and the Your Neighbourhood Needle Network!! Yesterday at 10 am my 2.5 year old found a needle and other paraphernal...ia on Talbot Street. Now this morning David Gravel found 4 needles along with the sterile water tubes along Holy Angels church. Dave went and cleaned it up. No sharps container around so he disposed as best as he could. When I walk with my family our eyes are always to the ground around us now. SAD and FRUSTRATING. Seeing needles and other paraphernalia is NOT what I want my family exposed to. Addiction is a very real part of our past and maybe that's why I take it so personally. This is going to be a never ending battle because needles are handed out with no expectation that the old ones are returned. No needle exchange program in this city what so ever. There NEEDS to be. I'm all about harm reduction services and using safely. That's their choice to use. They can do it safely. Why not? It helps prevent the spread of disease and keeps hospital beds available to the seriously ill. So if they can use safely, then why can't they dispose safely? I know mental health has a major role in this. I'm not ignorant to this. But if they can find the money, the drugs and put the needle into their arm they CAN clean up after themselves!!! I understand Brad Jones from the Your Neighbourhood Needle Network is taking a break. A much needed break! All volunteer! Countless hours he has put out. The areas of the city he has scoured to keep us safe. He is NEEDED. Already our city is missing his valuable service. Joe Preston something needs to be done. This man needs to be hired for his time and service. Our city really does rely on him.
