Happy Friday Folks! FYI - Be Coyote Smart kindly see below for all things you need to know about coyotes. I did not previously know this, but in HRM we have coyotes living in most communities! On this website there is also a ‘sighting option’ for residents to report coyote sightings for tracking and behaviour assessment. Very low risk of human engagement, but keep your small pets close by! https://novascotia.ca//living-with-wil/be-coyote-smart.asp

Hi folks, I had an interesting conversation about our environment today and it made me think of the tragic problem of plastics in our oceans. When I discovered just how severe the problem was, I stopped buying sandwich baggies and snack baggies. I know that is literally just a tiny drop in the bucket, but I was wondering what other ways you have made changes to support a cleaner environment? Would love to hear your ideas!

Hey folks, Yesterday on the Rick Howe show I heard councillor Tim Outhit (district 16) talk about the effects of Covid on our spending (HRM) in the next few years. Rick asked him if raising taxes would be considered to help mitigate the losses from the hospitality and business sectors due to Covid? Folks, I purposely did not make my platform about promises I have no power to deliver. Knowing the devastation resulting from the death of tourism on our economy will last for som...e years (yesterday they speculated 2-4 years), I made sure that what I promised was in my power to network and facilitate with the help of amazing people like you. I will not vote to raise taxes. We have been hit hard, and I would petition to cut spending before I would vote to raise taxes. My commitment is to represent YOU. Advocate for YOU on city council. I have spoken to well over a thousand people in our district since the start of my campaign and have not heard one person in favour of having their property tax raised. I dont claim to have all the answers, but I can and do promise you this- I am fiercely loyal and I do not quit. I will work hard for you and our community to earn your vote today and keep your vote tomorrow. VoteForTrish.ca #letsdothis

Hi folks, This is my family. Like most families, we have been through some pretty difficult seasons. I have seen these kids walk through fire and I am so proud of each one of them. One of my important commitments to our community is to help empower our youth. For a young person to have a supportive adult in their life is a strong indicator that they will be ok no matter what trial they face. We have power to make a difference folks! ... One way I plan on doing this is to network and facilitate mentoring events in the community. I have a vision to see fun and informative regular events in our community, with the purpose of teaching our youth important life skills like budgeting, debt management, entrepreneurial skills, self discipline, ethics, character development, success principles, etc... It is my vision to see all different kinds of leaders in our own community rise to the challenge of speaking at these events. I would also like to initiate volunteer programming for youth to help our seniors with practical needs like lawn care and snow removal. These are lofty ideals, but I am good to put the work in and see it happen. VoteForTrish.ca #Letsdothis

Hi folks! Looking for lawns!

Hi folks, I wanted to share with you why I am for the proposed amendment to the current land use bylaws to allow for secondary suites and backyard suites in HRM: 1. It is a gentle way to increase affordable housing without changing the character of a neighborhood. Most cities in Canada permit this.... 2. It allows for gentle density increase. This increase has generally not been shown to drastically increase traffic or cars in the neighbourhoods in other cities, especially when other modes of active transportation are accessible. 3. Gentle density increase benefits the local economy by boosting local businesses. 4. It has the added benefits of allowing for ageing in place. 5. It contributes to affordable home ownership. 6. It increases the overall rental stock. Im interested to know what YOU think! Visit me at VoteForTrish.ca! #letsdothis

Hi folks, The following is the beginning of my platform in text for you to read and consider. I will take it one commitment at a time to keep the post bite sized: I have chosen to focus on PEOPLE not projects for my campaign for the following reasons:... 1. I plan to be part of the solution for meeting real needs in our community. 2. Money. Council recently approved the budget until April 2021, but what happens after that? The world is shut down with no plans to reopen anytime soon. We are being told to expect this pandemic to last for several years. Our hospitality industry has been hit hard with no guarantee of when it can recover. I commit to fiscal responsibility and will not promise something that is not in my power to deliver. 3. People are the backbone of any community. Their strength and health is the communitys strength and health. There is a philosophical thought that states a society is only as strong as its weakest link. I plan to work towards strengthening what is weak in our community. One of my important commitments to our community as your councillor is to work towards supporting our seniors. One of the ways I will do this is by facilitating and initiating community programming here in our district. Connecting needs with practical solutions is paramount to my campaign. I am people oriented and believe seniors not only deserve our support but many need it. I also support amendments to our land use bi laws that will allow secondary suites to be built so as to accommodate ageing in place, and multigenerational households. This is practical and does not have an unrealistic price tag attached. For the programming to be implemented, it will take a person willing and able to do the networking and I am willing and very able. For some examples of what I mean, visit my website VoteForTrish.ca and look under RESOURCES. I look forward to hearing from you! VoteForTrish.ca
