This year, with COVID-19 restrictions in place, we recognize that you may not be going to many stores or interacting with our kettles at their locations. The good news is you can still give online! We're hosting a virtual kettle. You can click the link below to donate. https://kettle.salvationarmy.ca//1/langley-gateway-of-hope
Our annual Christmas Kettle Campaign begins tomorrow! We are excited for this yearly tradition, and are making sure we comply with all public health regulations. You can read more about our adjustments, and register to volunteer, here: http://gatewayofhope.ca/christmas-kettle-campaign/

Thanks to Tamara Jansen MP for sending this certificate of appreciation for our volunteers. Thank you for recognizing all the important work our volunteers do on a daily basis! We couldn't do what we do without them!
We are so thankful for our Tournament of Hope sponsors. Even though we had to cancel the tournament, they have still stepped up with donations to help us during this difficult season. Thank you Leavitt Machinery for donating $1500 to support our programs in your community!
Thanks to United Way of the Lower Mainland, who held a school supply drive through Hi Neighbour ~ Langley. They brought some friends to help drop them off too! #locallove #langleygives

Through their membership with Foresters Financial, 6 different families each accessed a $250 Caring Through Crisis grant to purchase school supplies to benefit students in the Langley and Aldergrove area who are returning to grades K-12 this Fall. Thanks so much for your support of our School Supply Drive! #langleygives
More pictures from our Back to School event last week! In total we gave out over 650 backpacks full of school supplies to families in Langley and Aldergrove. #backtoschool #langleygives
This past Wednesday was our annual School Supply event. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had volunteer drivers deliver over 600 backpacks to families all over Langley and Aldergrove. Thanks to all the people that volunteered, and to Christian Life Assembly - Langley, The Village Church, SouthGate Church and City Dream Centre for partnering with us to make this great event happen in a different way this year! #langleygives #COVID19
Thanks Pharmasave Langley City for dropping by with some hand sanitizer today! #covid19 #langleygives
The preliminary results of the 2020 Metro Vancouver Homeless Count are in: 2,095 residents identified as homeless 547 people were living on the street 1,...548 people were living in sheltered locations, including emergency shelters, detox centres, safe houses, and hospitals, with no fixed address While stats show a small decrease in those who identify as homeless, new figures highlight the disproportionate number of visible minorities without safe and stable accommodation that meets their basic needs. http://ow.ly/DNR750AWYM3
Due to the restrictions in place because of COVID-19, we are saddened to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Tournament of Hope. We wish to thank all our sponsors and those who have supported this annual event. We fully intend to continue the legacy of the Tournament of Hope next year. In the meantime, our work continues. The need for support is greater than ever. We have taken on some projects to help those in need effected by COVID-19. Our team is working tirelessly, pack...ing and delivering over 140 food hampers for individuals and families every week. This will continue until students return to school and parents can return to work. We have also had to cancel our annual school supply event. Instead we have arranged a social-distancing friendly way to distribute supplies to families. We have found that the need for this program has also grown. We are anticipating a jump from 550 to over 700 backpacks distributed this year. We will continue to work to support all those affected by COVID-19 but we need your help. The Tournament of Hope is our largest one day fundraiser every year. With the loss of the event this year, we are that much more in need of support. If you are in a position to make a donation to help support the projects we are running we would be very grateful! You can donate online here: https://the-salvation-army-gateway-of-hope.square.site/, or you can give us a call at 604-514-7375 to discuss other ways you can give.
Throughout B.C. a number of heat warnings are in effect this week. As the Government of Canada recommends please take extra precautions to prevent overheating e...specially for those in higher risk categories such as young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. - Stay cool and hydrated, particularly during the hottest period of the day. - Limit outdoor activity during the day to early morning and evening. - Dress for the weather by wearing loose, lightweight clothing. Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. - Keep your home cool. Open windows, close shades or blinds, use an air conditioner and prepare meals that do not require an oven. - NEVER leave children or pets alone in a parked car. Across the province we are opening up shelter spaces, offering water, providing sun block and other essentials to keep people safe from the heat. Recently in Maple Ridge our local Ministry Unit distributed water bottles to people at Memorial Peace Park. #GivingHopeToday #BCstorm
Thanks Foresters Financial for donating 100 shower and hygiene kits! These will make a great welcome gift to new guests to our shelter. Thanks to Kerry Campbell for organizing the initiative, including having people drop off their bags in staggered time slots to ensure social distancing! #langleygives
Our heart goes out to all those affected by the Madison Fire. In such a time of tragedy it's amazing to see the Langley community come together in support. We were happy to do our part this afternoon, serving snacks and water to evacuees and support workers.
Although we are still not fully back to taking donations, we are in need of shoes right now. If you have men's or women's shoes in good condition, we welcome you to drop them off to us. Office hours are 8 am -4 pm on weekdays, but they can be brought to the shelter office in the evening as well.
