Never tried this but I know that crushing a clove with the side of a knife will take the skin off of real quick.
Happy Slippery Sunday folks. Even the gravel is icy. Getting close to one centimetre of ice on the branches and I’m starting to hear some break. A quick shoutout to the Manitoba Hydro workers! Stay safe my friends! It’s nice to know someone has our backs. Filling my tub as we speak lol; lights were flickering earlier. Pics are from last October when the MB Hydro boys bailed us out after two days without electricity from that epic snowstorm. THANK YOU!!
Seed garlic LIMITED QUANTITIES! If you are planning on planting garlic this fall don’t hesitate! There is only a few pounds of Persian Star left and we are about to begin planting the Elephant garlic. Our seed garlic is graded for high quality seed and based on bulb size. 15$ for large seed and 12$ for medium. Available at both the Ste. Rose and McCreary honour stands. There is also honey and maple syrup in both stands, as well as pumpkins, spaghetti, acorn and Hubbard squash in the McCreary stand. A quick video on breaking up the bulbs into cloves for planting. Will do a planting video soon.
Can’t say that the internet doesn’t affect nature anymore!! Here’s a couple of pictures of Wifi bugs I took this weekend.
SEED GARLIC for sale! Available at both Mccreary and Ste. Rose honour stands! Howdy friends! We have managed to clean and grade a whole bunch of garlic that we aren’t putting back into the ground. We have two varieties; elephant and purple stripe. Prices are 12$ for medium and 15$ for large seed size. Planting hard neck garlic is typically done within the first two weeks of October. I will post planting instructions in a future post. Thanks everyone!
These beautiful flowers are called Jerusalem Artichokes. They grow wild in our area. I find them in large bunches along the edges of streams where there’s light soil. They have tubers attached to the roots that are edible. The tubers taste like a mix between carrots and potatoes and are as nutritious as a potato without the excess carbs. You can eat them raw or steam them and top with butter and some salt and pepper. They’ve helped me out a couple of times when I forgot my lunch lol. Beavers eat the tubers in the spring a lot, which happens to be how I discovered them.
Spotted touch me nots. Impatiens capensis. Can eat the seeds and also use to get rid of poison ivy! Now you know why they’re called touch me nots!!
