Social media is more chess than checkers. Small wins, like a pawn here or there, add up. And those small wins added up can produce big results. But it takes time and strategy. https://buff.ly/2I8EBE1

One of the missing pieces I see when talking to business owners is they often don't understand how to tell their story on social media. And in many cases they tell me "I don't really have a story." Yes, you do! And being able to understand it and convey it to your audience is paramount to your success on social media. At Tweedia, we come to your brand without any blind spots. It starts by understanding who you are and what your business's story is. Because only then can your brand start to build meaningful connections with your clients.

Having a tough time generating engagement through your social media channels? Try turning the tone of your messaging down. The best social media starts a conversation. It talks with your audience, not at them. https://buff.ly/2I8EBE1

Scheduling upcoming posts or events is a good way to create multiple posts when you have time as a business owner. But you have to be mindful of what's happening in the world. Being responsive, at all times, is important. Bill Clinton's account posted this during the Capitol siege. It was later deleted.

Do you know where the line is? One thing that should be abundantly clear is that your social media accounts can be taken away for violating the companies' policies. There are rules around who and how you can target certain ads/products. Share campaigns are not allowed. Hate speech isn't tolerated.... When you sign up for an account you agree to these and many other policies. Tweedia.ca

Congratulations!!! A perfect season for the Assiniboine Community College Cougars didn’t end in another American Collegiate Hockey Association Women’s Division 2 title due to the unfortunate pandemic-induced cancellation of nationals, but it was enough for them to capture the 47th annual Mike Jones Award as Westman's best team. It doesn't get the attention a city by-election would get but these people manage a massive budget and are guiding policy that affect the future leaders of Brandon. So...vote.

Social media is what we do! And we're darn proud of it. Thanks to Siere for the opportunity to sit down and chat about what Tweedia does for businesses in Westman.

Reframing your posts so they aren't "selly" is an important aspect of good social media. Your audience doesn't need to be screamed at: "BUY THIS!" Try putting yourself in their shoes and think about the problem your product or service solves for them.... For instance, let's say you're a car detailer, you could say: "We'll clean your car!!!" Or you could think about your target audience and say something like: "We know you're busy loading the kids up for school and hockey practice and dance lessons and gymnastics, so we'd love to give you a break and clean up your shuttle from top to bottom. Plus...we love stale Cheerios."

We see long diatribes against large corporations and shows of support for local businesses on social media every day. But does anyone really know what shopping local means? Sometimes those same posts are followed with photos of their latest purchases from online retailers. Shopping local isn't lip service as it's an investment in your community. It's understanding that you might pay a little more to deal with someone in your community...WHY?...because they haven't cut people ...out of the process. They still employ people in your community who raise families, coach sports teams and pay taxes that fix roads and keep the lights on in public spaces. Large online retailers have eliminated those people. It's why they can charge less and rely on volume to make it up. It's also rarely the size of the business that makes them a good corporate citizen or not but whether they have local owners within your community. Again, people almost always do what's right if they're connected to the issue. Large online retailers aren't connected, choosing to see numbers before people. We were disheartened last week to see people take shots at a local business owner who recently purchased a hockey team (can you solve this mystery?) in Brandon. As if his success should be ridiculed rather than celebrated within our community. Not to mention all the people (almost exclusively local) who have bettered their lives within his organization. Again, those people work in Brandon, raise families here and fill our rinks, baseball diamonds and theatres. Those people become the life of our community. They, like their owner, give back in a multitude of ways. So posting "Shop Local" graphics is great but it's pretty hollow if there isn't an understanding of the underlying philosophy. When you shop local you're rarely just supporting a local business owner. What you're really doing is supporting people. People who live, work, coach, and volunteer in your community. And those same business owners, at least the vast majority of them, recognize the choice you made when you came through the door and made that purchase; and it's why they encourage their people (often on the clock) to give back and ensure our community continues to prosper. So SHOP LOCAL...not because it looks good in a post, but because you believe in people first.
