Today, Neil Ellis, Member of Parliament for Bay of Quinte, on behalf of the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; Daryl Kramp, Member of Provincial Parliament for HastingsLennox and Addington, on behalf of the Honourable Laurie Scott, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure; and Her Worship Jo-Anne Albert, Mayor of Tweed, announced funding for upgrades to the Tweed wastewater lagoon system. The Government of Canada is investing more than $1....1 million in this project through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada plan. The Government of Ontario is providing $939,466 and the Municipality of Tweed is contributing over $3.3 million. The project involves replacing an existing drainage ditch with 1,100 metres of new covered pipe, creating an additional 2.8 hectares of wastewater storage, and upgrading the lagoon’s aeration system. These improvements will allow the community to meet current standards for wastewater treatment, and increase its capacity to accommodate future growth. The work will also reduce wastewater overflows to help keep waterways clean and protect fish habitats.

Andy Brown Memorial Centre (Marlbank Dome) Rehabilitation Project is almost complete! The Municipality of Tweed and the Marlbank Recreation Committee is so excited for this project which was funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. All we have left to complete is a new sign and some concrete poured at the entrance. We can’t wait for all those to enjoy!

2021 Budget Meeting - Part 1

As Halloween quickly approaches, I know residents, parents, and children are looking for direction on how to celebrate Halloween this year. I strongly support and encourage everyone to follow the direction of our Hastings Prince Edward Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Oglaza to celebrate Halloween in a different manner. For those residents who are handing out candy and families who wish to take their children trick or treating door to door I ask you all to follow the COVID ...guidelines of Hastings Prince Edward Public Health: Only go out with members of your household; Only trick-or-treat outside; Both trick-or-treaters and people handing out candy should wear a face covering. A costume mask is not a substitute for a face covering and should not be worn over a face covering as it may make it difficult to breathe; Do not congregate or linger at doorsteps and remember to line up two metres apart if waiting. Avoid high-touch surfaces and objects; Whether collecting or handing out treats, wash your hands often and thoroughly, or use hand sanitizer; and Do not leave treats in a bucket or bowl for children to grab and consider using tongs or other similar tools to hand out treats. Posters from Ontario’s Public Health may be picked up at the municipal office or the Tweed News or download a copy from www.ontario.ca/page/how-celebrate-halloween-during-covid-19l. In partnership with the Municipality of Tweed and the Marlbank Recreation Committee the Andy Brown Memorial Centre (Marlbank Dome) rehabilitation project is almost complete. The outside is complete and the next phase is Sport Court Flooring being placed down with a design to have a basketball and pickle ball court, as well as ball hockey. Residents of the municipality and surrounding area will be able to enjoy during the Spring, Summer, and Fall some of the following activities: basketball, pickle ball, ball hockey, roller blading; during the winter the dome will also serve as an outdoor skating rink! This project was funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
