Although piercings in the lips or the tongue have become very popular in recent years, few people consider the health issues this kind of decorative piercing presents. In addition to the usual risks of infection, oral piercings can also endanger your teeth and oral tissues. Before you decide to pierce your lip or tongue, give us a call to find out all the risks and possible side effects. 778-484-5517 . .... . . . #oralpiercings #tonguepiercing #lippiercing #tymkiwperiodontics #periodontics #kelownaperiodontics #vernonperiodontics #okanaganperio #okanagan #okperiodontics #vernonperiodontics #kelownaperiodontist #dentalimplants #teethinaday #dentalsurgery See more

Up to 3.8% of people have one or more extra (supernumerary) teeth. An extra tooth can be visible (erupted) or impacted (not broken through the gum). The extra teeth seen in hyperdontia can be either primary teeth or permanent teeth, although extra permanent teeth tend to be more common. For reasons that aren’t yet clear, hyperdontia is twice as common in men than it is in women.* Call our office today with your questions 778-484-5517 . .... . . . #supernumerary #hyperdontia #dentalsurgery #tymkiwperiodontics #periodontics #kelownaperiodontics #vernonperiodontics #okanaganperio #okanagan #okperiodontics #vernonperiodontics #kelownaperiodontist #dentalimplants #teethinaday #dentalsurgery *Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3198547/ See more

Gum grafting (or Gingival Augmentation) is a type of dental surgery performed to correct the effects of gum recession. It is a quick and relatively simple surgery in which a periodontist removes healthy gum tissue from another part of the mouth and uses it to build the gum back up where it has receded. A gum graft will cover the exposed roots to protect them from decay, help reduce tooth sensitivity, and improve the aesthetics of your smile. 778-484-5517 . .... . . . #gumgrafting #gingivalaugmentation #graft #mouthgraft #gumrecession #coveryourroots #tymkiwperiodontics #periodontics #kelownaperiodontics #vernonperiodontics #okanaganperio #okanagan #okperiodontics #vernonperiodontics #kelownaperiodontist #dentalimplants #teethinaday #dentalsurgery See more

Hygiene Tips for Oral Health While we wait patiently to get back to work and treating you in the office, we want to remind you that oral health should always be a priority. Don't forget the simple day-to-day habits that will keep your periodontal condition(s) from worsening. Here's what we recommend: Brush your teeth twice daily with a soft brush and fluoride toothpaste, for two minutes each time. Gingival tissue gets stronger when worked so that’s why we recommend using a...n electric toothbrush (unless we have directed you otherwise contact us if you are unsure). We recommend Sonicare. Remember to tip your toothbrush toward the gumline instead of brushing your tooth surface flat-on. Clean between your teeth every day with interdental brushes (from cheek and tongue sides). We recommend using proxabrushes to help further stimulate the tissue between your teeth. Experiencing sensitivity in an area, after your normal home care routine? Apply Colgate Pro Relief to this area and allow time for the fluoride in the tooth paste to soak into the tooth. This can take a few days before the results are noticed, but it does allow for a decrease in the sensitivity. A fluoride mouthwash (Colgate Total) can be used as an adjunct to lower bacterial levels and reduce bleeding. Chlorhexidine should not be used as a rinse longer than 2 weeks unless you have been given alternative instructions by our office. If you find your schedule is permitting time to begin a new project, trying adding in a WaterPik to your home care routine. This tool can be a great adjunct to the daily flossing and electric toothbrush routine. Drink lots of water. Hydration helps saliva flow and that helps prevent food particles from getting stuck between your teeth. Plus, good hydration helps all your systems function optimally. Cut down on how much and how often you have acidic and sugary foods/drinks. NOTE: If you’ve had oral surgery within the past three months please follow the instructions provided and don’t hesitate to contact us if you are unsure what tools you can/should be using at this stage of your treatment. Keep in Touch We miss providing care and know that your dental health is a priority for you. Please know that you can reach out to us at any time with questions or concerns. We are monitoring our email, phone and texts and will get back to you with any questions you have: email: [email protected] phone/text: 778-484-5517 Stay well! Dr. Tymkiw and Team
