Convocation Profile: Maxine Myre, PhD As a researcher and volunteer, Maxine Myre is helping remove the burden of weight stigma that can prevent people from getting the benefits of physical fitness. Myre’s research began uncovering the damage that weight stigma was doing, especially when it comes to physical activity. Women who participated in her research not only cited untoward comments and treatment when attempting to engage in physical activity, but also said they experienced a lack of clothing options, inaccessible exercise equipment and less-than-inspiring physical activity messaging
Convocation Profile: Corey Kuzik a 3-time grad from KSR with a BSc, MSc, and now a PhD I originally came to kinesiology because I was interested in making myself a better athlete. I think getting injured reframed what you can do with kinesiology, he said. I became less interested in helping the top one per cent get a little bit better and more interested in helping the entire population get more active. Read more about Corey Kuzik 's journey
Convocation Profile: a chat with Anna Dunn When Anna Dunn came to the University of Alberta in 2016, she continued a family legacy of academia and varsity sport that goes back generations. "I’m really proud of how involved I was, both academically and in extracurricular activities, and some of my accomplishments along the way. I was the University Athletics Board president-elect in 2018-2019 and president in 2019-2020. I was also a member of the Pandas’ soccer team for three... yearsplaying alongside my sister for the first twoand an Academic All-Canadian in the last two years. I was also part of the Peter Lougheed Leadership College, which was a fantastic learning experience, and I’m now graduating with my degree plus a certificate in Interdisciplinary Leadership. But overall, I think what I am most proud of is the courage I showed in dealing with the various challenges that I faced throughout my journey." Read more about Anna's journey!
