Very sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Stephen Drance, a marvellous human being and ardent supporter of early music in Vancouver. He will be greatly missed!

Hi everyone... Just a few notes about UBC Early Music's plans for 2020-2021. The School of Music is planning a "phased in" approach for small ensembles which, hopefully, will see some small-group live rehearsals beginning around Thanksgiving (12 October) and larger-group rehearsals beginning in Term 2. The beginning of the fall term will see some one-on-one instruction either in person or online, supplemented with a range of online seminars, presentations, and lecture-demonst...rations. All of this is tentative, of course, but we hope we will be in a position to offer as much content as possible in the coming year. There are currently concert dates on the books (see the UBC School of Music website), but it is more likely than not that one or more of these concerts will be postponed; we still hope to work toward a major project for the spring term, though, which might either be live or recorded, depending on the circumstances. Sadly, out of an abundance of caution we have decided to suspend UBC Early Music activities for the remainder of the term, including the final Winter Concerts on 29-30 March. Stay tuned for more information about plans for this coming fall, and please stay healthy and safe!

The Baroque Mentorship Orchestra (Alex Weimann, director), in a preview of UBC Early Music's spring concerts on 29-30 March, will be performing this coming Sunday at Knox United Church! Repertory by J. B. Bach, Johann Rosenmüller, Michel Corrette, and G. F. Handel. Admission by donation.
