Sexual violence of any kind is not tolerated at UNB. Every incident of sexual violence that comes to our attention is taken seriously and we work to provide cl...ear advice and support to victims of sexual violence. Sexual violence is a serious issue that has significant consequences for victims and their families. Sexual violence is a global and local challenge, and is especially prevalent amongst university populations. We acknowledge that female university students are especially at risk for sexual victimisation and it is essential that universities have policies and programs in place to provide support and assistance. Five years ago, UNB undertook a comprehensive review which included public consultation, and a review of research and best practices to inform the creation of our Sexual Assault Policy. As part of the policy, we created new staff positions on each campus known as the Campus Sexual Assault Support Advocate (CSASA) and UNB Fredericton contracted with Sexual Violence New Brunswick to provide one of their well-trained, highly skilled counsellors to fill the role for us. We encourage people to learn more about UNB’s Sexual Assault Policy, resources and support (https://www.unb.ca/initiatives/sexualassault/) or contact our Campus Sexual Assault Support Advocates at [email protected]. We acknowledge the ongoing risks and challenges in addressing sexual violence across the community and we are committed to an ongoing process of improvement in responding to the needs of survivors of sexual violence.
