Santa Sacks make a wonderful gift for UP participants and also for those on your nice list. To sponsor a Santa Sack in honour of your clients or loved ones (like Van Simpson - Scotia Wealth Management, who bought 10 Santa Sacks for his clients!), simply include request for an In Honour of E-Card in the Message to Charity box on the Santa Sack payment form. Help make our participants' holiday season a little more joyous and comfortable.... www.upsantasacks.ca See more

Homelessness is not an adjective to describe a person. Stigma does that. What can you do to help? Use the power of language! Shift your words to 'a person/people experiencing homelessness'. It takes longer to say but will help shorten how much longer you will have to say it. #GivingTuesday https://givingtuesday.ca//unity-project-for-relief-of-home

Hats off to Tru Earth for their June donation valued at $1,762. We had received a grant from London Community Foundation early on in COVID to help with additional coin-operated laundry costs at the hotel, $500 per week. Together with the Tru Earth laundry detergent eco-strips donation, we saved tonnes of space in a small laundry room and our participants are far less reliant on the constant replenishment of clothing donations. Having the resources to do one's own laundry p...rovides dignity to participants in being able to take care of themselves, maintain personal appearance and keep the clothing that one likes and fits well. Thank you! (Please note, we are not currently accepting in-kind donations)

Individuals experiencing homelessness are particularly vulnerable as they are lacking permanent housing, meaning these individuals cannot effectively self-isolate. They are exposed to increased risk every day and lack access to infrastructure and supply to maintain their health and mitigate risk. Many also have health conditions which expose them to even greater risk. #GivingTuesday is just 2 weeks away and Lina and Chris Bowden of Cambia Development Foundation are, once again, graciously matching donations to Unity Project dollar for dollar (up to $5,000) from NOW until Giving Tuesday, December 1. Why? Because you are more likely to have a chronic health condition, less access to the necessary health care required, and more likely to be physically and sexually assaulted. Further, the opioid crisis disproportionately affects people living in poverty. #GivingTuesday https://givingtuesday.ca//unity-project-for-relief-of-home

The bylaw was not created with people experiencing homelessness in mind. It is, however, right about one thing: parks are not adequate places to live. Let's work towards systems change so that actual housing is accessible and affordable to all.
