The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on children and families across the world. Ukraine is no exception. In early March, 50,000 at-risk children from... across Ukraine were sent home from orphanages to their biological families in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Most families were not prepared for this abrupt return and are unable to provide basic food and hygiene supplies to their children. UCC is pleased to support the launch of the Covid-19 Children's Relief Initiative in partnership with Help Us Help Help Us Help (Нове Поколння - Мжнародний Благодйний Фонд), Canada Ukraine Foundation. We are pleased to announce the launch of the COVID-19 Children’s Relief initiative (www.covid19childrensrelief.ca ) supported by MEEST Canada - in partnership with Микола Кулеба, the Ombudsman for Children with the President of Ukraine. Donations are now being accepted to support the purchase of food packages and hygiene kits for these children and their families in Ukraine. These materials will be distributed by social workers as they visit the families to assess the health and well-being of the children. Thoughts and prayers go out to the passengers of the Ukraine International Airlines flight that crashed near Tehran last night. 63 Canadians and 11 Ukrainians lost their lives due to this incident. Ghanimat Azhdari and Milad Ghasemi Ariani, University of Guelph Ph.D. students, were amongst those who died in the crash. We mourn with the friends and families affected by this tragedy, especially the Guelph community who knew Ghanimat and Milad.
