She has been involved in the implementation and evaluation of projects focusing on maternal and newborn care in Malawi, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She worked as a clinician in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where she is originally from. She teaches global health at the medical school of the University of Ottawa. Anifa Kalay holds an M.D degree from the University of Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and a PhD in preventive and environmental medicine from the University of Kumamoto (Japan).

He is a former Chief Scientist with the federal government, and both the founder and Executive Editor of the Interdisciplinary Journal of Health Sciences. Dr Deonandan is also an award-winning author and journalist, having been awarded the national book award of the nation of Guyana in 2000. In 2016, he was named one of the Ontario's best teaching professors by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations. In the past few months, he has been active on various provincial, national and international media discussing the epidemiology of COVID-19.
