University of Ottawa Ukrainian Students' Club 21.12.2020

We stand in silence, holding candles and wheat, to remember the millions of Ukrainian lives lost. To remember the survivors. To remember the affected. To spread awareness. To ensure the tragedy that was the Holodomor famine-genocide will not repeat itself. Holodomor Vigil. Ottawa. November 2020.

Голодомор means to kill by starvation. From 1932-1933, millions of innocent Ukrainians were killed in this man-made famine created by the Soviet regime. Thro...ughout Holodomor Awareness Week, we have commemorated our ancestors who perished in this genocide by lighting candles at our windows. Thank you to everyone who lit a candle this week and to University of Ottawa Ukrainian Students' Club - OUSC for organizing the Holodomor vigil in Ottawa We encourage you to continue raising awareness by SIGNING A PETITION to get the word #Holodomor into the major English dictionaries: http://chng.it/QRKzH7rjQ9

The Paul Yuzyk Institute takes its inspiration from the life’s work of Senator Paul Yuzyk (1913- 1986), who as a Canadian Parliamentarian, academic, Ukrainian-Canadian community leader, and founder of the UNYF persevered through the economic hardship and ethnic discrimination of his youth to pioneer the official recognition in 1971 of Canada as a multicultural country. 2020 PYI Leadership Webinar brings together experienced community leaders with diverse backgrounds, mentors... with proven management experience, as well as active members of the Canadian-Ukrainian community. Please register by Friday, October 23, 2020 by email or the EventBright link. Two days ago was Ukrainian Defender Day. We remember those who fought and are currently fighting for Ukrainian independence. As a Ukrainian students' club, we would also like to advocate for ways in which we can defend an independent Ukraine in speech. Слава Укран!
