Here’s a peak at some of engaging events coming up.
November is Indigenous Education Month. Join our virtual events to learn from Indigenous Peoples about stories, histories, perspectives, creativity and survivance. Also engage in learning about anti-Indigenous racism and how to engage in challenging it. Poster by Jensen Group.
A virtual Indigenous Parents and Caregivers Group for TDSB families. Every Tuesday from 2pm - 2:30pm on Zoom. Starting October 13, 2020 First Nations, Métis and Inuit caregivers of the Toronto District School Board are welcomed to a weekly, virtual online... Indigenous caregivers group! Caregivers can connect with UIEC social workers Tsitra McKay and Emily Blackmoon to discuss thoughts, feelings, needs and concerns regarding navigating education during the time of COVID. Parents will also have the chance to hear about supports and resources that are available. All meet ups will be virtual and online. A zoom link will be sent out to participants. Interested caregivers can contact Emily Blackmoon at [email protected] or Tsitra Mckay at [email protected] to sign up. Hope to see you there!

International year of Indigenous Languages 2019 Symposium For TDSB staff; The Urban Indigenous Education Centre is holding an Indigenous Language Symposium on Wednesday June 19th, 2019. The Symposium will be held at the UIEC at 16 Phin Ave. There will be 4 guest speakers delivering workshops on how they are promoting, reclaiming and retaining their Indigenous Languages in their communities through song, story, games and educational activities. Participants will discover an ...appreciation of diversity of Indigenous Languages in North America. There will be space for 40 participants on a first come basis. Coverage is code 78. The Boyd Archaeological Field School is offering a double credit opportunity for secondary students this August in Pickering. The class will be working on a Wendat village.
