Help a family celebrate the holiday season! As part of their annual Holiday Dinner, Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre has launched a Virtual Toy Drive. You can make a monetary donation online or drop off toys at the toy box next to the security office on campus. As a team, we are happy we are able to play a role in the helping community stay connected through our programs and also support them by coordinating efforts for this meal to be shared amongst families. Hopefully we are helping to also reduce the stress around the holidays that some families might experience, said Angeline Nelson, Director of Community Learning and Engagement. In total, 200 turkey dinners, prepared and packaged by Diversity Food Services, will be delivered by the Wii Chiiwaakanak team, members of Les Marmiton, and wonderful volunteer drivers.

The University of Winnipeg Library moved locations on campus many times before finding its permanent home at Centennial Hall in the ‘70s. Taken in 1932, this photo shows the library in Wesley College just two years before it moved into the two-storey brick expansion behind Wesley Hall. #ThrowbackThursday : UWinnipeg Archives

UWinnipeg alumna Taylor Wilson has published a research paper looking into the decolonization of Canada’s Food Guide. The project, which was developed with Dr. Shailesh Shukla during her master’s studies, was in response to the latest guide launched in 2019 that promised to be inclusive of multicultural diets and diverse perspectives on food, including the food systems of Indigenous communities. Our research supports Indigenous-led and community-based resurgence and decolonization of food guides, she said. We propose to design and pilot-test a personalized Indigenous food guide in the Fisher River Cree Nation, as a community-based case study to demonstrate its impact.
