Look who's been adopted, it's our sweet girl, Ruby! We took her into rescue this summer after being at the pound for a while and she needed somewhere to go. Congratulations to her furever mom, Hilary Robinson. We know Ruby will get lots of love and kisses. Thank you Hilary, for welcoming her into your family. The first three pictures are of Ruby after we took her into our care, and the the third picture is of Ruby at the pound before we took her in. It appeared Ruby had pups not long before going to the pound. We have paid to have her spayed, microchipped and her vaccines brought up to date. Your donations help us to help animals like Ruby. Thank you from VAR and Ruby

Congratulations to Annie on the birth of her 7 kittens! She is being a great momma cat to her babies. Annie was dumped in a driveway in a very pregnant state. She came so close to having her kittens alone, outside, and where predators could have gotten them. We were contacted for help and luckily we took her into rescue just in time for her to give birth in one of our foster homes. Mom and babies are doing well. Much thanks to our pawsome foster mom, Sara Lynn Roussell...e for the care and love she is providing to the new family This will be a great expense for us with vetting all 7 kittens and momma, but Annie needed our help. We have set up a fund at Canada Helps called Annie and Kittens and would greatly appreciate any donation at all to help with expenses. https://www.canadahelps.org//chariti/valley-animal-rescue/ OR you can send an etransfer to [email protected] and please state in the comments it is for Annie and Kittens. Also, please include your address so that we can issue a donation receipt. OR you can mail a donation to Valley Animal Rescue, Box 214, Renfrew, ON. K7V 4A3 Thank you from VAR and Annie Here's a few pictures of Annie and her Kittens. They will eventually be available for adoption when they are ready VAR will be paying for their microchipping, spay/neutering when they are old enough, and their vaccinations will be up to date at the time of adoption.

On this Thanksgiving we are very grateful for two very special ladies, Danielle Daoust with Paws & Biscuits and Meagan Potter of Unleash Your Paws. We had posted this past summer that it was difficult to raise funds during COVID and that we may have to close intake for a while. Throughout the summer Danielle and Meagan ran a bottle drive with their clients, raising $288.80 from refundables alone. They raised a total of $302.60 for a rescue in need. We are thrilled to annou...nce that they chose our rescue. They sent this nice message with their donation. "We hope VAR is able to continue to provide its exceptional care to rescued animals in the Ottawa Valley for a long time." THANK YOU Danielle and Meagan and all those that donated

Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful. We have much to be grateful for including the support we receive which helps us to continue our work, for the opportunity to help animals in need and to make a difference in their life, for the volunteers that are the backbone of the rescue, for the foster parents that welcome our foster animals into their home, for the adopters who provide our foster animals with their furever home and a new start in life, and for this opportunity to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.

Look who's been adopted...it's Hunter and Tanner! Their story writes like a fairy tale; hence they have been affectionately referred to as our Cinderfellas...the male version of Cinderella Hunter and Tanner are 7 yr. old brothers, and inseparable. The bond they share is heartwarming and very strong, so we knew we had to adopt them together. They are never very far from each other. We are delighted to announce that they have been adopted...TOGETHER! ... These two sweeties came into our rescue in March of 2020 when the owner reached out and asked us for help to give them a good life. They were living in an outdoor pen. We were happy to help and be a part of their journey. We took them into rescue, got them fully vetted including an ultrasound for Hunter's enlarged prostate, neutering, vaccines brought up to date, microchipped, flea/tick prevention and any other medical attention they needed along the way. We also had them groomed and bathed, and placed them in foster care. Little Tanner had a significant underbite when we took him into rescue. We noticed he was eating slowly and seemed to be having difficulty eating at times. We took him to the vet and it was recommended that some of his lower teeth be removed. Due to the underbite they were cutting into the inside of his upper cheek. In September he had the surgery to remove some teeth that were causing him discomfort and he is eating better now. A HUGE THANK YOU to the generous people who donated towards his dental surgery. The following wonderful people have been a part of their journey to their forever home. We'd like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to Angei O'Neill of Dog Gone Beautiful by Angei O'Neill, Sue Bruemmer of Bruemmer's Boarding, Victoria Silverson of Victoria's Canine Paradise, Ryan and Christina McFadden and Lindsay Stairs. A HUGE THANK you to the vets at Renfrew Animal Hospital, Mississippi Mills Animal Hospital, and Pembroke Animal Hospital for their excellent care. THANK YOU to the VAR volunteers Greg Lewis and Sally Wright for their assistance with transport. A HUGE THANK YOU to their new forever mom, Debi Hall Debbie D-Fly Hall, and her canine companion, Darla, for welcoming Tanner and Hunter (now named Chandler and Joey) into their home. We hope you enjoy these pictures of their journey. Picture 1 is of the day they were adopted and just about to leave the wonderful foster home of Ryan and Christina McFadden. Pictures 2 to 4 are of them with their new mom Debi Hall of Pembroke and her dog, Darla. Pictures 5 to 11 are of them at Ryan and Christina McFadden's while in foster care. Picture 12 is of them at Victoria's Canine Paradise where they became housetrained, learned some doggy manners and had fun running and playing in the big yard. Pictures 13 and 14 are a visit to the vet and the groomer for a bath. Picture 15 is before they came into our rescue.

In response to recent events, Valley Animal Rescue (VAR) is issuing the following statement in an effort to inform the general public. Valley Animal Rescue's primary responsibility is to the animals in our care. The welfare of these animals is our first and foremost concern. All the animals in our care are either surrendered by owners that can no longer provide proper care, rescued from some over-populated shelters to prevent euthanization, or transferred from pounds when ow...Continue reading

We are reaching out in hope of finding some foster homes for abused and neglected dogs. There really is no pretty way to say it; these dogs have not had a good life and have suffered abuse and neglect in their past. Our goal is to give them a better life and that starts with placing the animal in one of our foster homes so that we can help the dog to gain confidence and learn to trust before going to its forever home. These dogs need additional patience, attention, and u...nderstanding. Sometimes they startle easily. Some haven't been socialized much. They are best suited to a home with no other animals and no young children. We are looking for fosters that are willing to participate in training with the dog, if needed. VAR pays for training, and we provide food, vetting and supplies to the foster. In some cases, the foster even helps the animal to transition to its forever home, making the move to its adoptive home less stressful. Fosters play an important role in the recovery process of an abused/neglected dog. It is a very rewarding undertaking. Fostering an abused/neglected dog certainly isn't for everyone, but if you think you can open your heart and your home to one, we'd love to hear from you Please message [email protected] with questions or to request an application. Thank you from VAR and the animals

Look who's been adopted...it's Milou! What a lucky boy he is to have found his furever home with his new mom, Janet Pearson Nelson. Milou is a dog we rescued from the shelter when his time was up and was going to be euthanized. All we knew about his health was that prior to being given up to the pound, Milou had tested positive for Lyme disease, so sometimes that also makes them less adoptable at the shelter because people don't want to take a chance. But we took a chance... on him and saved him, hoping that if his Lyme was active we could get him treated right away. At only 4 years old, he certainly deserved it. When we took him into rescue we got him to a vet as soon as possible and had some tests done for Lyme exposure effects. Although he still tested positive (once a dog tests positive for Lyme exposure, they will always test positive) the good news was that his Lyme Disease was not active, and may never be. We got him neutered, microchipped, and his shots up to date. He is in good health and loving life. Here's some pictures of his journey. Picture #1 is Milou and his new mom, Janet Pearson Nelson Picture #2 is the pic we saw of Milou at the shelter...how could we say "no"? Picture #3 is Milou outside the shelter waiting for a Freedom Drivers: Animal Rescue Transports volunteer to come pick him up to be transported to us. Picture #4 is Milou and Delia from Freedom Drivers: Animal Rescue Transports on his way to us Picture #5 and 6 is Milou arriving into rescue. He sure was a happy boy that day Congratulations to Milou and Janet, may you have a long and happy life together. See more

Mia is showing us how she can walk on her repaired leg, and without the help of the harness now. Hooray for Mia! We saved this sweet girl from euthanization at the pound back in early summer. Mia had been given up to the shelter by her owners. She is 9 years old, deaf, and had never been to a vet in her life. She had a tumour on her underbelly, the size of a large orange, and another on her head. The shelter simply can't afford to operate on every animal that comes in w...ith a medical situation, so she had a euthanization deadline. Her story touched our hearts, so we took her into rescue. We had no idea what lay ahead for us, but we knew we had to try to help her. We had the tumours removed and they were found to be Stage 2 cancer. An ultrasound was done, and thankfully, the cancer hadn't spread to her inner organs. It was a joyous day when we learned that. The next challenge was to repair her two damaged legs. Both had ligaments tears. The first TPLO surgery was in August and here she is today, walking on her repaired leg without the support harness she needed after surgery. Mia needs her other leg operated on now. It will be a wonderful day when Mia can run and play. She wants to do that now, but we have to limit her activity for a while longer until her leg fully heals. We are collecting new items and gift certificates for the online auction coming up at the end of October for Mia's surgery on the other leg. If you would like to donate an item, please message [email protected]. We would greatly appreciate it. THANK YOU from Mia and VAR :-) See more

These are pictures of some of the kitties we are trying to help at the colony. The orange one has three head wounds that need to be treated. We have taken some of them into rescue already and taken to the vet. Our goal is to get this colony cleaned up and spay/neuter them to stop the reproduction and suffering of colony life. These poor animals don't know any other way. It's not their fault they are homeless or reproducing. We will make sure they all go to good homes. ... We have a fund set up for them at Canada Helps to help pay for vetting expenses including spay/neutering. You can choose Colony Kitties from the dropdown menu of funds.https://www.canadahelps.org//chariti/valley-animal-rescue/ OR you can send an etransfer to [email protected] and please mention in the comments it is for the Colony Kitties. Also, please provide your address so we can issue a donation receipt. OR you can donate through PayPal with the Donate button in this post. You can also send a donation to Valley Animal Rescue, Box 214, Renfrew, ON. K7V 4A3 THANK YOU! Colony Lives Matter
