The 2020 Vancouver All British Field Meet and the Vancouver All British Whistler Run will not take place due to COVID-19 concerns Each year, the All British Field meet (ABFM) and All Brit Run Whistler (ABR) have been about bringing British car fans together to enjoy their classics. Unfortunately, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, city officials have mandated social distancing and placed restrictions on public gatherings. Additionally, many of our U.S. entrants will be una...ble to attend because of border restrictions. All these factors have had an unavoidable impact on our ability to proceed safely with a 2020 event. Prior to the annual Victoria Day weekend event date (May 16-17, 2020), we announced a rescheduled date of late summer on the chance that large gatherings would be possible by that time. Regrettably, that is not going to be the case for anytime soon. We therefore have no alternative but to cancel this year’s Greatest Show on British Wheels, ABFM 2020 and ABR 2020. What happens now? 1) For those entrants who have registered for this year’s ABFM and or ABR you may defer your current registration to 2021 and you will also be mailed the event dash plaque that was designated for this year. 2) Those entrants who do not want to defer their registration to 2021, may request a refund on current registration payment(s) by emailing your request to Joan Stewart at [email protected]. No dash plaque will be sent with the refund. 3) Those entrants who purchased 2020 memorabilia: t-shirts, golf shirts, extra dash plaques and/or Whistler Run badges will be sent those products by mail and their entry will also be deferred to next year’s show. Classic cars in a variety of marques were driven in a recent event in support of Richmond frontline workers at the Richmond Hospital, Fire Hall #1, City Hall, RCMP and the Richmond Food Bank. Dubbed Honk 2020, the parade of classics that included Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Lotus, Jaguar, MINI, MG, Ferrari, Mercedes Benz and a Ford T-Bird, lived up to its name by honking horns down #3 Road to City Hall, then on to Brighouse #1 Firehall to arrive at 7pm, precisely, at Richmond... Hospital on Gilbert Street. The Food Bank says for every $1 it receives, it enables $6 worth of food to be purchased. This meant that the event was pleased to contribute approximately $12,000, and counting, worth of food to be distributed to the Richmond community. The Honk 2020 initiative brought the community members together in support of such a meaningful cause, said Hajira Hussain, executive director Richmond Food Bank. Many people are facing increased hardship putting food on the table and they continue to access the Food Bank on a regular basis. After years of the SVABC (Specialty Vehicle Association of BC) working in partnership with ICBC managers, policy and insurance specialists, the day has arrived when a surviving spouse in British Columbia can retain a vehicle’s collector plate and not be required to reapply for collector status on the vehicle. This applies to both regular plates, as well as collector plates. Due to the resources required to process these transactions, it is recommended that the insurance broke...r in BC be contacted/visited between 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, since brokers will not be able to process these plate transactions outside of these hours. Because the ability to retain the same plate on the vehicle is limited to surviving spouses, the insurance broker will need to see a marriage certificate in addition to the estate documentation. Additionally, surviving spouse who wishing to retain their deceased spouse’s vehicle plate should attend their Autoplan broker’s office before the insurance expires. Plates with active insurance can be transferred on the same day, whereas lapsed plate transactions can take up to three weeks. If the collector vehicle was registered in both spouses’ names, both spouses would have applied for collector status when the plate was issued so there is no need for a surviving spouse to re-apply for collector status. If the vehicle was only registered in the deceased spouse’s name, the surviving spouse would need to apply and be approved for collector status before the collector plates could be retained for display on the vehicle. Estate planning tips: i) Consider putting the vehicle ownership in both spouses’ name ii) A vehicle in joint name simplifies the estate documentation requirement. When a vehicle is in joint name, the surviving spouse simply needs to bring in the vehicle registration, death certificate and marriage certificate to process an estate transfer and retain the same plate on their vehicle. iii) A collector vehicle in joint name simplifies the collector application process in the event of a spouse passing. When both spouses are registered owners and jointly apply for collector status the surviving spouse isn’t required to re-apply for collector status. iv) Don’t let the plates expire. Lapsed plates can take up to three weeks to process for a surviving spouse wishing to retain them on their vehicle.

Richard Johns (June 21, 1934-May 26, 2020) Coast Import Auto Supplies It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Richard Johns, on Tuesday May 26, 2020 after an extended hospital stay. Richard was an entrepreneur his business, Coast Import Auto Supplies, has been in operation for more than 50 years and is still a leader in import used auto parts. He derived a lot of pleasure going into work every day, which was certainly a feat at 85, and he did so right up to his h...ospitalization. He enjoyed work, cycling, spending time soaking up the sun at his beloved Spanish Banks, reading, collecting, and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his twin brother Donald (Gail) Johns- Richmond, B.C.; niece Glenna (Patrick) Bauer- Ketchikan, Alaska and friend and longtime business associate, Ed (Linda) Tretwold-Coquitlam, B.C.
