Words for the life of faith from John Calvin "Every since the Holy Spirit dedicated us as temples to the Lord, we should make it our endeavour to show forth the glory of God, and guard against being profaned by the defilement of sin."

"Ever since Christ purified us by the laver of his blood and communicated this purification by baptism, it would ill become us to be defiled with new pollution." John Calvin

Ever since God exhibited himself to us as a Father, we must be convicted of extreme ingratitude if we do not in turn exhibit ourselves as his sons." John Calvin

"No one has to tell us to bow to Christ. It is our joy and delight to throw ourselves down at His pierced feet. The Cross is the towering symbol that binds God's empire together as one." (Iain Duguid, Commentary on Daniel 3)

After the flood, God sent a messenger of peace to Noah and his family. Read about it in Genesis 8 or visit www.vancouverapc.org/sermons to reflect on this more with us.

"All men, whether Christian or not, are our neighbours if they be in need. But if we really love our fellow men we shall never be content with binding up their wounds or pouring on oil and wine or rendering them any such less service. We shall indeed do such things for them. But the main business of our lives will be to bring them to the Saviour of their souls." J. Gresham Machen, 'Christianity and Liberalism'

Christ died"--that is history; "Christ died for our sins"--that is doctrine. Without these two elements, joined in an absolutely indissoluble union, there is no Christianity. J. Gresham Machen, Christianity and Liberalism

On Stillness. You'll notice times of quiet and stillness - our worship service is conducted in a very simple style and it is unaccompanied by musical instruments (a longstanding practice of Presbyterian churches that has become quite rare today). Whatever your first reaction might be to this, we would encourage you to experience this stillness as a call to reverent worship and not to think of it is as the absence of sounds. We live in a world cluttered with a cacophony of noises - surely you've noticed this - and our times of public worship together are made more profound through their simple clarity and times of stillness. We want you to hear the voice of God in His Holy Word and to meditate on the impact that the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ has on you.

"Would you be willing to thank God for a gift he gave you and has now taken away? Maybe it was your spouse, your reputation, your financial security, your health, your home. . . . Thank you. Would you ask God to help you to loosen your grip on the gifts he has given you so you can feel the freedom of entrusting everything to his care?" (From Nancy Guthrie's book "Holding onto Hope") P
