So much gorgeous music on today's Choral Concert! If you missed the live broadcast you can listen to the archive on the CBC website or on the CBC Listen app for iOS/Android. Thank you to host Katherine Duncan for sharing the wonderful comments from an audience member who attended one of our live performances on September 26. We'll be releasing the video footage soon, but in the meantime we're getting ready for our next live concert on Oct. 31! Details coming soon. Have a safe and healthy Thanksgiving weekend!

Congratulations to our Honorary Patron and longtime friend, Stephen Chatman, on winning "Classical Composer of the Year" at BreakOut West! We're so honoured to be presenting the world premiere of his piece "Lie still, lie still, my breaking heart" tomorrow at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. Dr. Chatman shares the title this year with Carmen Braden we're big fans of her music, too! Congratulations to you both!

Vancouver Chamber Choir 07.08.2020

A new look for our 50th anniversary season! We've got lots of exciting things in store for you, but first, please read this message from our Artistic Director, Kari Turunen: Planning a concert season in a pandemic is a daunting proposition. It is difficult to know what will be possible, and what a concert in these times would and should look like. One thing I have not doubted at all is the necessity of getting back to music-making as soon as it is viable. Through the pandemic..., I have often found myself humming a line from a Weelkes madrigal: "Come, music, sick man's jewel". The pandemic has reached its grip on far more than those of us who have suffered from the ailment it causes. In some ways, every one of us has been touched. And in such times, art can uplift, entertain, comfort and console. For me, its greatest power is in the way it gives us a sense of community, even when we are physically detached. Art addresses our communal fears, sorrows and joys. In the company of art, we are not alone. For some reason, this experience is heightened when experiencing art live, in the here and now. In this sense, the 50th Anniversary season of the Vancouver Chamber Choir is no different to any other of its seasons, only the backdrop is radically altered. Some of the concerts will be open for a small audience, and all the performances will be available online. The essence is unaltered: we will aim to bring you choral art that is engaged, relevant and of the highest quality. Art that uplifts, entertains, comforts and consoles. - Kari See more

We're getting ready for our 50th anniversary season... but the choir's not quite complete! We're calling for tenors to audition and be part of our upcoming year. Send your résumé and two or three contrasting pieces to Artistic Director Kari Turunen by September 8. Video is preferred, but audio will be accepted. Accompaniment is preferred, but not required.
