Hope you're all well and still doing your best to support the small businesses that make Hastings Sunrise such a great community to live and shop. So get that mask on and get out there. They need your support now more than ever!

Hang in there! It seems many of us have reached a 'wall' in this pandemic. We're anxious, lonely and worried about the future. But we have to know this WILL pass. You can get through it! Message people you haven't spoken to in a while, reach out when you need to. When the weather is not conducive to spending time outdoors and we shouldn't really be inside small businesses for long, (even with a mask), it's difficult to see the light. But we are all doing our best to stay positive. Message if you feel like you need contact. We're all out here doing the same.

Gratitude fills in the gaps and makes us whole. Open up your heart and mind to the good all around us. It's there, we just have to observe it and be open to it. Reach out to people you love and share some positive thoughts. It's contagious. And....support local small businesses!

Scandilicious at 25 Victoria Drive also has outdoor seating as do a lot of our small... breweries, Roundel Cafe and WHAT'S UP? HOT DOG have open fronts for good air circulation. Bonny Henry has said the chances of contracting Covid are infinitesimal outside if you keep your distance. So go on! Were fortunate in British Columbia that phase two of reopening businesses means we can start to dine and drink at our favourite locals again. We can again support the small businesses that have suffered a great loss during this difficult time. Look for new health and safety regulations that include servers wearing masks and more spacing between tables. Places with open fronts and patio space are even more attractive now. One such place is @whiskeysixbbq at 826 Renfrew. Locally sourced meats are smoked daily and the bar is stocked up with all local craft beer and spirits. If this doesnt entice you to return, you should know that all call in and pick up orders are 5% off. Whiskey Six is open Tuesday through Saturday 4-8pm with a happy hour 4-6pm. Whiskey Six BBQ

Inside at the new Pennyroyal Coffee 2263 East Hastings. Max and Cynthia are serving local roaster Modus Coffee in sublime ceramic mugs. The photos on the wall are by Maxs father. The coffee originates from Indonesia where the couple ran a successful cafe for two years. Theyre still working out the future menu that will include French pastries, one of Cynthias many talents. This weekend theyll launch a simple brunch menu but come early for it. They open at 9am on weekends, earlier during the week and closed in Tuesday.
