We've come a long way, but their stories are a powerful reminder that we need to do more to reduce the risk of occupational cancers for #Firefighters. #VancouverFirefighters received an unprecedented 300+ calls on an extremely busy 24 hour shift on Halloween. Among these calls, forty of them were confirmed fires which ranged from structure fires, vehicle fires, tree/rubbish fires and caused an estimated $450,000 in damage. A Shift had a very busy end to their 24 hour shift as #VancouverFirefighters battled an early morning 3rd Alarm fire on Cambie St. The large blaze was fully involved in five commercial occupancies which caused catastrophic damage to the structures. Last week #VancouverFirefighters battled two residential building fires simultaneously in South Vancouver and Mount Pleasant. The two fires were called in minutes apart with smoke and flames showing from both structures. Crews were quick on the scene to contain the fires to the suite of origin and safely evacuate occupants. In total, two occupants were sent to hospital for treatment and roughly 45 residents were displaced from their homes.
