Today is #TransgenderDayOfRememberence, a day to honor and mourn the trans lives that have been lost throughout the year. Violence against trans and gender-diverse folks is steadily increasing, particularly against trans women and femmes of color. Today, we remember the lives that have been lost, as let TDOR serve as a reminder to continue the fight against transphobia, transmisogny, and violence against the community. Check out our latest blog post below for more inform...ation on the importance of Trans Day of Remembrance. https://vancouverpride.ca/blog/a-day-to-honor-trans-lives/ Image Credit: So You Want To Talk About [Image Description: A light beige graphic mounted on a light blue background has black text that briefly describes the history of Transgender Day of Remembrance.]

This Friday, November 20th, a march and memorial hosted by CATA will be held in in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). This day acts as a time to mourn, remember, and raise awareness for the many trans lives that have been lost, in particular trans women of color and sex workers. TDOR is a heavy day for many trans folks in our community. It is crucial to show up for trans folks each and every day of the year, stand in solidarity and take action. If you are not sh...owing any symptoms of COVID-19 and feel safe doing so, we urge you to attend the memorial and/or march. For those who are unable to show up in person, a virtual component will be taking place as well. Please see the event page 2020 Vancouver Trans Day Of Remembrance for further details. [Image Description: A black background shows two hands painted in the trans flag colors, blue, pink and white, and holding a lit candle. Vancouver Pride was looking forward to hosting our first Queer Holiday Market this winter, but our plans have changed, like many other events organizations, due to COVID-19. With that being said, we've decided to get creative and go virtual! Many of our artisan friends and vendors have lost in-person sales opportunities due to the pandemic, and we want to provide them with an opportunity to advertise their products throughout the holiday season. On our 2020 Holiday Gift D...irectory, you'll find a wonderful and growing list of LGBTQAI2S+ and BIPOC owned businesses, unique designers and shipping-friendly options to add to your #PrideWishList. Please consider shopping local, and supporting your fellow queer and BIPOC designers and small businesses for your gift buying, holiday shopping and self-care splurges this year, if you are able to! Check it out here: https://vancouverpride.ca/online-holiday-market/ [Image Description: A purple background has white and blue text that reads, "When you buy from a small business, an actual person does a happy dance." In light of #InternationalPronounsDay yesterday, we are sharing this great article that can be used as a guide for someone who may need some help learning about the importance of pronouns, and how to correctly use them. Pronouns are not a preference, they are a requirement. While it may take time to get used to using different pronouns for someone, especially if you've known them for a long time, doing so will help create a welcoming, safe and validating environment for them to exist in. Sending lots of love and solidarity to everyone today! Your pronouns are valid, and should be respected all day, every day.
