"What I learned led me to conclude that a toxic culture prevails in the RCMP. This culture encourages, or at least tolerates, misogynistic, racist and homophobic attitudes among many members of the RCMP...I am of the opinion that the culture change is highly unlikely to come from within the RCMP. The latter has had many years to proceed, has been the subject of numerous reports and recommendations, and yet unacceptable behaviour continues to occur.'

People with disabilities deserve a basic income By EVELYN FORGET AND SHEILA REGEHR Last month’s Throne Speech committed to the creation of a new Canadian Disability Benefit for persons with disabilities that’s good news. The details remain vague, but some disability advocates have long championed a basic income for people with disabilities. The new Disability Benefit may offer a step toward that reality. Basic income is a guarantee that no Canadian will have to live on an i...Continue reading

So many good things in this article including the fact she found JK Rowling’s article on sex and gender, a perfectly reasonable piece in her view, earlier this year. Again JK Rowling is a woman who is progressive, who clearly stands for and believes in diversity.

Simone de Beauvoir said that a crisis will suffice for women’s rights to be threatened. What happened in #Poland today is yet another proof that she was right. ... The constitutional tribunal has voted it is constitutional to ban abortions due to medical reasons, including worst foetus defects, making abortion virtually illegal, as 98% of all abortion procedures in Poland were performed for such reasons. The abortion law in Poland is amongst the strictest in the world. For the past 4 years, activists for women’s rights have been actively campaigning to repel abortion restrictions. The women’s strike and the black protests moved the world, gathered international solidarity and showed the strength of feminist organising. And yet all it took was a moment of the movement’s immobility due to COVID-19 restrictions for women’s reproductive rights to be stripped. The decision is a result of political cynicism the Plish government is trying to cover up its complete inability to govern the country going through a global crisis. But it’s also a sign of its total contempt for women’s lives. The inevitable death and suffering of thousands of women means nothing to them to them women are merely incubators and caretakers preserving the functioning of a sadistic state. They proved how easy it is to deprive them of autonomy over their own bodies. Don’t get it twisted it is vital to acknowledge that they attacked women as it is women as a political and social class that is deemed powerless in the eyes of the state. It is the female sex that is being controlled and exploited for political purposes. We stand in solidarity with all women in Poland. It is a global fight, as it is the patriarchy ruling over our bodies. It is a feminist struggle to its core to make sure that women everywhere are safe and in control of their destinies. http://wiadomosci.dziennik.pl/shutterstock

They regularly encounter vicious messages about their appearance and sexuality. They receive death and rape threats and in some extreme cases, their addresses and personal phone numbers are published onlinea practice known as doxing. "
