If you own a Crawl space, you know that in the winter it’s cold, and in the summer it’s hot and even potential moldy. If we had a dryer, cooler space in the summer months that would make the floor frames dryer making it resistant to mold, rot and bugs. To do this we need to insulate the crawl space. Porous block walls allow outside air to come in. That's warm humid air in the summer months which brings moisture with it. ... When the warm air contacts the cool sub-terrain surfaces we get condensation, which means high moisture content in the wood, which means mold, rot, and bugs. In the winter we have cold outside air coming through the block walls. The block walls have two cavities inside the block meaning that the air can channel down or up the foundation wall and find its way into your home. This makes our floors colder, and making your heating bill higher. To remedy this issue, you can insulate your walls with a vapour barrier; however, if your crawl space has earth as it’s flooring the terrain which is 17 degrees colder than the temperature of your home will forever and ever continue to suck your warm air from your home through the soil. To remedy this by insulating the crawl space with a terrablock type of insulation.
