Due to the continuing rise of Covid-19 cases, The Ontario Government has announced effective November 23rd at 12:01am, Toronto and Peel will go into a modified lockdown. This new lockdown includes but not limited to; restaurants, bars, non-essential retail stores, gyms, theatres, banquet halls and personal care services which includes, hair and nail solons for 28 day. Once again, this does not affect VELOCITY. As Velocity is a Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation facility with ...all our practitioners having their own governing bodies and considered essential services, our clinics will operate as normal with all COVID-19 protocols in place. From Velocity’s @ec.physio Pretend like you’re camping and POP A SQUAT. While toilets feel like a luxury compared to squatting in the woods, the position toilets put us in actually makes it more difficult to pass a bowel movement (aka poop). The puborectalis muscle (one of the muscles of the pelvic floor) acts like a sling around our rectum. Puborectalis is normally in a contracted state which pulls the rectum tight, creating a sharp angle and acting like a valve to shut ...off flow through the rectum (aka keeping poop in). When the puborectalis muscle is relaxed, the angle of the rectum straightens out and opens the valve through the rectum (aka lets poop out). What’s the best way to relax the puborectalis muscle? SQUAT! We can mimic a squat on the toilet by leaning forward and relaxing our arms on our knees or bringing a stool into the bathroom and resting our feet on it so that our knees are higher than our hips. More relaxed puborectalis muscle = less straining = healthier pelvic floor and healthier YOU!
