I could never run like you do . I’m not a fast runner, so I’m not really a runner . I‘ll never be able to run the whole distance without stopping to walk, so I’m not going to sign up for that race... . There’s no way I can keep up with those who run all the time . These are all excuses I used to tell myself before I started running. I thought that to be a runner, I had to fit a certain mold and then I set too high of expectations on myself. And when I didn’t meet those expectations, I felt like a failure or a fraud because I wasn’t ‘good enough’. . With running, there is no right or wrong way to do it. Everyone’s run is going to be different. A faster or slower pace, more or less walking, music or no music, group runs or solo adventure, hills or flat terrain, hot or cold temps, the list goes on. . So many people I talk to say ‘someday I want to run a 5k’, but are afraid to start because of fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of not meeting their own expectations. . Running looks different for everyone and it doesn’t matter how slow you go, how much you stop and walk or if you prefer to run alone vs with a group. Make it your own run, set small goals for yourself and remember that even if you are only out there running for 1 minute, you are already doing so much more than those who are sitting on the couch doing nothing. .
