We are extremely sad to see this mandated to funeral services. We of course respect the premises of why this action is taking place but are disheartened for those families who will have to suffer through this difficult period. Our love goes out to those who will have to experience the pain of loss in a very lonely time.

Lest we forget... Remembrance Day 2020 will be unlike no other as we see modified or even cancelled tributes that commemorate our veterans and fallen soldiers. Every year, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we gather in memorial parks, community halls, workplaces, schools and homes to stand in honour. And though public events are on hold, please join us in observing a two minute moment of silence at 11 a.m., wherever you may be, to mark the sacrifice of the many who have fallen in the service of their country, and to acknowledge the courage of those who still serve.

One of the reasons we chose our location is that our building is connected to the Masonstar Hall. This is a great option for services and receptions up to 75 people.

When it comes to commemorating your loved one, there are so many beautiful options. With the holiday season fast approaching, you may want to consider a personalized ornament. You can place a photo, name and dates and select the shape that you prefer (circle, square, oval, or heart). We also offer jewelry, frames, blown glass and keepsake urns. We would be happy to assist you with creating a lasting tribute.

When it comes to your final arrangements, shouldn't you make the decisions? The arrangements you make will reflect your exact wishes and desires. Pre-arranging your own service will help to ease the burden of your loved ones. It will also alleviate any questions, problems or differences, which can occur among family members. You can provide us with information only or there’s an option of pre-payment. Pre-payment will protect you from the rising cost of prices, and it will not be a financial burden on your loved ones. When you plan ahead you know that your wishes will be fulfilled. Make an appointment with us at 780-581-1550 or you can complete your wishes with us online at: https://www.reflectionsfuneral.com/pre-arrangements

We’re inviting everyone to SPEAK UP to spark change. We have to talk openly and acknowledge how domestic abuse affects our communities, our families, and our lives. We have to be brave. Also, recognize that domestic violence can also be experienced by men. If you’re a man in an abusive relationship, it’s important to know that you’re not alone. However, men are often reluctant to report abuse because they feel embarrassed, fear they won’t be believed, or are scared that their... partner will take revenge. As an abused man, you may face a shortage of resources, a lack of understanding from friends and family, and legal obstacles, especially if trying to gain custody of your children from an abusive mother. Whatever your circumstances, though, you can overcome these challenges and escape the violence and abuse. Regardless of gender, ending a relationship, even an abusive one, is rarely easy. It becomes even harder if you’ve been isolated from friends and family, threatened, manipulated, and controlled, or physically and emotionally beaten down. Domestic violence and abuse can have a serious physical and psychological impact. The first step to protecting yourself and stopping the abuse is to reach out. Talk to a friend, family member, or someone else you trust, or call a domestic violence helpline.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month: Every year in November, people come together to recognize and raise awareness of the challenges that come from a diagnosis of lung cancer. It is through this recognition that individuals and groups have helped to make a difference for lung cancer patients, caregivers, family and friends. Special events and fundraisers are just some of the ways that communities are coming together to help support patients and raise awareness.

Let’s see your photos of your beautiful families as we celebrate National Child Day! This day has been celebrated on November 20th each year since 1993. Celebrating National Child Day is about celebrating children as active participants in their own lives and in communities, as active citizens who can and should meaningfully contribute to decision-making.

It’s important to be mindful today of safety, as there will likely be some who will be out trick or treating. Remember to walk safely (look both ways on streets, stay with a parent, put electronic devices down), costume safely (stay warm, ensure proper fit, have flashlights if dark), drive safely (slow down and keep a watchful eye), and trick or treat safely (go to houses that indicate they’re giving out candy, have individually packaged items, have hand sanitizer available). Lastly, even with the restrictions, remember to have fun with your kids (in whichever way you best see fit).

As October comes to an end, we just wanted to remind everyone during Mental Health Awareness month that taking time for yourself is important. Recharge, balance yourself, and focus on your needs. Especially during these times, it’s more important than ever to connect with your mental state.

Today is Aspirin Exacerbated Respiratory Disease (AERD), also known as Samters Triad, Awareness Day. This disease is not well known and as a result, can be difficult to find assistance within the healthcare system. My husband personally suffers with this since his early 30s, which is typically when this disease comes into play. Once finding a support group, it was a tremendous help in finding direction on how to go about finding treatments (though it is not curable, just m...anageable). Symptoms of this disease include an allergy to NSAIDs (non steroid anti inflammatory drugs), nasal polyps, asthma, congestion, poor drainage, ear infections, chronic sinusitis, and loss of smell. It can certainly make day to day life more difficult and an aspirin allergy is very frightening when it turns anaphylactic. A great resource about this disease is: https://www.samterssociety.org See more

I’ve often been asked as a Funeral Director, how we handle it. Honestly, one part of it is finding the good in every day. There are many, many hard moments. But we persevere, knowing we make a difference. Another part of it is having a good sense of humour. As such, one of my employees recently pointed out to me how their paycheques are received, as pictured below... Oops!

If you are living with any of these life challenges below and find it difficult to pull yourself up out of those cloudy, dark, scattered, sad, perhaps even scar...y places in your mind, please reach out. I've been there...and have learned how to pull myself out. Rather than that dark heaviness settling in for days, weeks, or months, I am able to turn my thinking around in hours. They say you lose someone twice when a loved one dies from Alzheimers Disease. It is a cruel and devastating process as you watch someone ebb away from who they once were. Ive experienced it first hand with several family members, in most recent years my grandmother who was diagnosed in her late 60s and passed a few short years afterwards. World Alzheimers Day is September 21st. Ive attached a video that helps to provide more understanding to the process of this disease and helping to raise awareness.

When we found out about my job loss, Josh didnt skip a beat about the idea of us starting out on our own. I honestly didnt know if I could do it. At the time, I was seven months pregnant and our current economic climate is not optimal. But over the next few weeks, he continued to encourage me and give me the strength I needed. When I decided to make the plunge, he was behind me 100% and although theres some hard days, hes continued to support me time after time. Working tirelessly around the clock, I couldnt have accomplished this without him. He really has made my dreams a reality. A great business partner, but even more importantly, a wonderful life partner. Thank you for all youve done and continue to do.

Fall harvest season has started for some and will soon be in full force. As such, rural drivers can expect to share the road, not just on gravel roads but main highways as well, with large farm implements. Its important for drivers and farm equipment operators to remain alert at all times and be considerate of each other. Here are some good driving tips to keep in mind during harvest season: Always be on the lookout for farm machinery. Remember it can unexpectedly turn onto ...public roads from a field or driveway. Farm machinery typically travels at 40 kph or less, so be prepared to slow down in order to avoid a rear-end collision. Keep a safe distance. This gives better visibility to both drivers and equipment operators. Allow adequate time and distance for farm equipment to make wide turns. Just because you see the equipment does not mean the equipment operator sees you. We pray for a safe and successful harvest in 2020!

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on 31 August each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of drug overdose. International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message that overdose death is preventable. Thousands of people die each year from drug overdose. They come from ...all walks of life. Processing death or injury from substance use is a special kind of grief. Most feel shame and guilt. Many, who fear judgment, compartmentalize their grief. No community is immune to drug poisoning. In every place we go, drug poisoning affects people we meet and work and interact with. How can we help those in our community? Loved ones can and do recover with the right treatment with lasting solutions, saved lives, and sustained recovery.
