#yyc #ppcli #cdnpoli Healthy Heroes Canada is a program designed by Paul Hughes and the Grow Calgary Policy Committee to assist veterans with their well being via robust health programming. The objective is to "Kick The Can", or in other words, to provide a healthy alternative to the entrenched societal response of handing someone a can of food and calling it food access. Veteran's Farm Therapy Program (VETFarm) Grow Calgary and the Veteran’s Health Program (VHP) offer specialized programming for Veterans, providing a complementary and alternative form of therapy for individuals who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). ... Care farming has been shown to be an effective means of therapy, and has not only proved to be beneficial towards this particular group of citizens but for Calgary as a whole. It promotes and increases awareness of PTSD and also increases social sustainability by providing a better quality of life for stakeholders (Veterans) involved with VETFarm. The Veteran's Farm Therapy Program (VETFarm) participants are current and former Canadian Armed Forces members. Grow Calgary has been able to contribute to hundreds of thousands of meals annually since its origin and we have had much success in regards to community building, the creation of a safe and welcoming place for all, as well as the provision of fresh food for vulnerable Calgarians and Veterans through our commitment to compassionate farming. Grow Calgary and its 30,000 volunteers are proud of our efforts in providing fresh food to those in need. It is a privilege for Grow Calgary to continue our work in the community to support our veterans who risked their lives for us and provide a welcoming space for them at the farm by supporting the Veteran’s Health Program.
