2013 - Summer has arrived and our meetings have stopped for the summer, see you September 9th for our next meeting at the Kaslo Hospital board room in the basement. Everyone have a safe and happy summer. And don't forget to drop by our Thrift Store, new items are always added. Come and be surprised.

VHKAS supports KootenayHealth Care The Victorian Hospital of Kaslo Auxiliary Society (VHKAS) is 110 years old this year. That is a tribute to the spirit of this town. But some days our members really feel the burden of keeping this Society alive. So it was extra special to see so many young faces at our Fall Fling in October. Nearly the entire JVH Grade 12 class participated (Bethany, Cassie, Desiree, Jessie and Rosemary on the runway, April, Ava, Ayzel, Biarki, Ca...ssandra, Gillis, Isaac, Ryan, Ross, Tasha and Tyberius behind the scenes); Emerson and Makenna nearly stole the show, and Aiko, Darcie, Karine and Sarah from our community, helped by Mabel, modeled more glamorous gowns, even a wedding dress with bouquet. For those who were not there, not only did you miss some good pie and a fun show, but also the chance to show support for the VHKAS and its mission of supporting the lifelong health and wellbeing of our community. Despite the current health care challenges, the VHKAS continues its work. This year finally sees the installation of a new and much improved internal communication system at the Health Centre and Residential Care Facility. VHKAS contributed $30,000 towards this Rauland Responder 4000 Call System. As well, our Society donated $10,000 to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital appeal to purchase a Digital Mammography Machine in Trail, and, just this November, made a $3,000 donation to the Hospice Society of North Kootenay Lake. These are just the highlights. We appreciate the support our community gives us with donations to and purchases from the Thrift Store, our major fundraiser, but some new faces at our meetings, and at our social events would be so welcome. October 20 - Saturday - FALL FLING - 1-3pm -$10. admission at the Kaslo Legion come and join us for a fun afternoon - fashion show, action, crafts, bake table - coffee/tea/juice & PIE what a great way to spend an afternoon and support our hospital and community .. tickets at the door or at the Thrift Store

We're off for the summer, no meetings during July and August. Next meeting September 10, 2012, 6pm at the hospital board, downstairs. Come and join us and see what we are about. Have an enjoyable and safe summer

Catherine Douglas Memorial Tea - June 19, 1:30pm Community members are welcome to celebrate Catherine Douglas Memorial Tea with us, and the residents of the Victorian Community Health Centre. Catherine Douglas was a much loved, and hard working, lifetime member of VHKAS. A wonderful, Christian lady, who also was a church lay reader and loved to conduct and assist at hospital services. KB Area Conference September 24 KB area conference will be held in Grand Forks.

KB Area Presidents Lunch-May 17 Presidents and or their representatives attended this day long educational lunch. Many topics were discussed pertaining to the Kootenay Boundary Area Healthcare Auxiliaries, and auxiliaries or non profits in general. Thank you to the volunteers who served our delicious lunch.

Kaslo May Days - May 21 Another successful May Days Tea. This year we celebrated 110 years of community service and we had a great turnout. Thank you to all the volunteers and people who donated prizes and baking. Without your help we would not have been such a success.

EVENTS UPDATE May 10 Hospital Auxiliary Day On May 10th, the VHKAS celebrated the "Health Care Auxiliary Day". We had a strong community turnout at the Thrift Store. The people celebrated with us by sharing coffee and cake, then into the store to they went to take advantage of our $1.00 Sale.
