Earlier in the summer, VSO Members Yi Zhou, Luke Kim and Noah Reitman, along with organist Greg Caisley, got together in an empty St. Paul's Anglican Church with Mariana Moreno, Charlotte Anderson and Rachel Buttress from the VSO School of Music to record a beautiful performance of four Bach Arias for soprano, strings and organ. We are pleased to share on their behalf with you this Thanksgiving Weekend. Enjoy!

We are very sorry to report that two important members of the Canadian Musical Family passed away this week, Barry McArton and Erin Wall. Barry McArton was a gifted non-profit administrator, community leader and fundraiser. He served as the VSO's General Manager from 1997 - 2000, during which time the orchestra was led by Sergiu Comissiona and then Bramwell Tovey. The gifted soprano Erin Wall last appeared with the VSO In Beethoven's Sym No. 9 under Otto Tausk. She was als...o featured in the final weeks of Maestro Tovey's tenure, singing the role of Ellen Orford in a concert presentation of Peter Grimes, and subsequently alongside Susan Platts in Mahler's Symphony No. 2, the "Resurrection." She was the daughter of Mike Wall, originally a member of the VSO horn section who would also serve in the capacity of the VSO's General Manager. To both of their families and friends, the VSO wishes to extend our deepest condolences.

Many members of the VSO family were saddened to hear of the death Eugene Osadchy, a much-loved former colleague. Mr. Osadchy passed away on October 3, at the age of 68. Eugene arrived in the VSO's 1981-82 season, and played with the orchestra through the fall of 2000. He rose to the chair of Assistant Principal Cello in that time, and also had a major impact on the music scene as a founding member of Vetta Chamber Music. The organization honoured him last year with the desi...gnation as Artistic Director Emeritus. He had been a professor of cello at the University of North Texas since 1999. He served as a principal cellist with the Plano Symphony, Dallas Chamber Orchestra and Richardson Symphony and regularly performed and gave master classes around the world. Mr. Osadchy was born in Kiev to a family of professional musicians and started his own musical education at the age of 5 on the piano and a year later on the cello. After graduating from The Special Music School for Talented and Gifted Children, he continued his education at the Kiev State Conservatory of Music, graduating with honors, and became a Laureate of the Republic of Ukraine Cello Competition. He also recorded with the award-winning CBC Radio Orchestra, composed film scores, made more than 100 arrangements for various cello ensembles and presented an annual Summer Cello Clinic in Dallas. He and pianist Anastasia Markina won critical acclaim for their CD Russian Romances: Joys and Sorrows in 2010 (Medtner's Insomnia, op. 37, no. 1 from that album) and released a CD of German Lieder, Nacht und Träume, in 2014. To his family, friends and fellow music lovers and music makers, we at the VSO extend our deepest sympathy. Vetta Chamber Music will honour Eugene's memory in upcoming programing. https://vettamusic.com/
