230 Kempenfelt Drive, Barrie, Ontario c.1875. 4 bedrooms 2 baths on 0.29 acre. $749,050 approx USD or $1.1 million CND Here is your first chance in 39 years to own "that home" on "that street" with "that view" and "that corner lot".... Anyone who has driven down this renowned Barrie Street,or walked the North Shore Trail adjacent to it, recognizes this landmark c. 1875 home. The property is conveniently located within an easy walk or bike ride of all the downtown amenities. The house itself is a testament to an era when things were made to last: in structure and in style it has staying power and the enchantment of a bygone age. Wide road frontages (217 ft),with waterfront across the road to the south and parkland across the road to the east, allow for unobstructed views from the wrap around verandah, the gazebo, or the many large windows. Entering through the front door, you will be charmed in the way you had hoped to be as you view a ruby-glass transom, hardwood floors,12-inch baseboards, period fireplaces, new paint in calm, fresh colours and, through the back band-trimmed windows, maple trees ,lilac bushes, landscaped gardens and Kempenfelt Bay. Radiant hot water heat(new boiler 2008) keeps the house cozy and the mechanicals are good here. The appealing kitchen has a floor-to-ceiling fireplace, lots of solid wood cabinetry, an attached pantry room, and a sunroom at the side entrance. The 4 beds upstairs have close- to-9-ft ceilings and pine floors; the master has a connecting nursery or playroom. Above the entranceway is the Lunenburg Bump where you can curl up and watch the boats go by.

Unattended cigarette likely cause of blaze, says Wasaga fire department The Wasaga Beach Fire Department says an unattended cigarette was the likely cause of a fire that gutted a bedroom at an east end home. Deputy fire chief Craig Williams said the lone occupant of the home on Meadow Lane was able to safely escape after she discovered the fire in the early morning hours of Oct. 13.... It took fire crews about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control in the unit, which is part of a six-unit townhouse in Parkbridge Wasaga Meadows development. Williams said the unit had a working smoke alarm. Williams said the resident was awake and had briefly stepped out of the bedroom around 4 a.m. Upon returning to the bedroom, she found the fire. After attempting to put it out herself using a wet towel, the resident evacuated and called 911. Williams said the occupant told firefighters that she believed she left a cigarette burning in an ashtray, and that was the likely cause. Williams said the woman made sure she closed any adjoining doors on the way out, which helped limit the damage to the bedroom and one washroom. He estimated the damage at about $200,000. He added the construction of the six-unit townhouse, with concrete separation walls, also limited smoke and water damage to the one unit. Cottages and summer homes are most vulnerable to thieves and subject to damage or vandalism in the off-seasonfrom the week following Thanksgiving to the weeks prior to Victoria Dayespecially if the owners are not using them regularly in the fall, winter or spring. With the Thanksgiving weekend winding down, many cottage and seasonal property owners now begin to consider the closure and winterizing of their properties. The Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations (FOCA)... wants to help you protect your investment, year-round. Remember, the cost of owning a cottage or summer property could include the frustration and irritation of repairing damage and replacing stolen property, if no one is living there or checking it regularly. If you own a cottage or other rural seasonal property, it’s time to consider the following:
