Moses Springer gives his seal of approval and says Bee Kind. First Mayor, Moses Springer, is donning his mask sporting the original 1857 seal of the Village of Waterloo a Beehive. The beehive symbolized industriousness and promoted Waterloo as a great place to call home. We would agree that Waterloo is a great place to live, so join Moses and bee kind keeping everyone safe.

A big thank you goes out to the students of Bluevale Collegiate for helping us with researching Waterloo residents who served in the First World War. This week will be sharing some of the stories they helped uncover of the local enlisted men and women. Pictured here are men of the 118th Battallion leaving for service from the Waterloo train station, now the location of Paul Puncher men's wear. #bluevalecollegiate #wrdsb #localhistroy #historyjunction #cityofwaterloomuseum

Happy Hanukka to our Jewish community. Tonight marks the first night of the 8 day festival. This festival celebrates the miracles of the small Jewish army defeating a much larger one and the sacred oil burnging for eight days instead of the one that it should have. Enjoy the first night of Hanukka and visit the large menhora in Waterloo Square with your bubble group. #hannuka #waterloo #celebration #waterloosquare

Today is the Waterloo Reverse Santa Clause Parade at Grey Silo Golf Course, which got us thinking What is your favourite parade memory in Waterloo? This headline says it all from the Waterloo Chronicle dated November 14, 1966, when the Christmas Parade was going to miss passing through Waterloo. Business owners and citizens were furious, causing a commotion and resulting in a new route which included Waterloo. Today is Treaty Recognition Day. Here at the City of Waterloo Museum, we would like to acknowledging that the land on which the museum is located is the land traditionally used by the Haudenosaunee, Anishnaabe and Neutral People. We also acknowledge the enduring presence and deep traditional knowledge and philosophies of the Indigenous People with whom we share this land today. Today is a great time to educate yourself about treaties and our communal responsibility to honour them. #TRC #woodlandculturalcentre #cityofwaterloomuseum

Join the Sikh community in Mount Hope Cemetery today at 2:30 p.m. to honour the only First World War Sikh burial in Canada. Buckham Singh served in the Canadian Army from 1915 until 1918. And don't forget to mark your calendars for next Sunday when we will be touring Mount Hope Cemetery honouring some of Waterloo's fallen soldiers. Both events are a great opportunity to learn about the Sikh experience in the First World War. #waterloohistory #sikhhistory

Pick your pumpkin! Which one would you choose? Whisky flasks come in all shapes and colours. The pumpkin seed shaped flask was designed to be small with an average height of 5 to 7 inches, portable, and made to fit easily in a coat or pants pocket, a purse, or hand bag. Yes guys weren’t the only ones enjoying whisky. Happy Halloween! #halloween2020

Former Mayor Marjorie Carroll joined us at the City of Waterloo Museum last August for a delightful visit. We were thrilled to interview Carroll about her time spent as Waterloo’s first female and longest serving mayor. Her many engaging stories were recorded and are now part of the museum’s collection. She got a big kick out seeing photos and artifacts the museum has collected of her. Here a just of few of the many photos, along with a one taken during our conversation last year. A link to her biography written from our interview can be found in our linktree listing.
