This Remembrance Day, we take the time to remember our #HometownHeroes and their contributions to Canada’s war efforts. Andrew Ford was born in England in 1890 and moved to Canada in 1909. Ford joined the Royal North West Mounted Police (RNWMP) in 1914, and was part of Squadron A which fought with the Canadian Light Horse brigade in the Battle of Cambrai, France in 1918. After returning to Canada in 1919, Ford was appointed Waterton’s first police constable. He remained in... Waterton for 14 years before being promoted and transferred to Banff. UPDATE: Akamina Parkway has reopened to Little Prairie Day Use Area, but winter driving conditions persist. Roads in the park remain snow and ice covered at this time. Check 511 Alberta for up to date road conditions: https://511.alberta.ca/

Waterton Lakes National Park 10.10.2020

Parks Canada has closed the entire Akamina Parkway due to heavy snowfall and winter storm conditions. The Parkway may reopen Monday evening (low confidence). Roads in the park are snow and ice covered at this time. Parks Canada is clearing roads in priority order. Check Alberta 511 for updated road conditions (https://511.alberta.ca/) A winter storm warning is in effect for Waterton Lakes National Park. Environment Canada recommends people consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
