DID YOU KNOW that the physical act of chewing increases the flow of saliva in your mouth? If you chew sugarless gum after eating, the increased salivary flow can help neutralize and wash away the acids that are produced when food is broken down by the bacteria in plaque on your teeth. #didyouknow #chewsugarlessgum

Wondering if it's time to bring your child in for their first dental visit? Our dentists at Waterview Dental can see your child for a primary examination after six months or when their first teeth start coming through. A primary examination sounds pretty intense, doesn't it...? Not to worry! We know such unfamiliar places and people can make some children nervous, so an examination involves us doing our best to get a good look at your child's teeth (when they let us!) It also involves our dentists and assistants making your child feel as comfortable as possible and to establish a sense of fun and safety Ready to book? 2.26 million. That is a big number. Education is vital so it can be disheartening to see figures like these. Is there a way to reduce these numbers? Absolutely! Encourage and remind your children to brush and floss twice a day as recommended by the CDA For younger children, make sure they can watch you brush - children between 2-4 years old do a lot of learning through observation and modelling!... Start good communication early - encourage your child to let you know as soon as they start to feel any discomfort with their teeth It is also important to note that there is nothing wrong with needing to go to the dentist! The fact that an appointment has been scheduled is already a step in the right direction. If you've got a scheduled dental visit coming up for your child and they're nervous, you can help by reassuring them; there's no Jason or Freddy Krueger in here! Just us . These figures are from a 2010 study, so we're hoping these figures have gone WAY down by now. . Does your child have a toothache or have you noticed anything out of the ordinary with their teeth? Schedule an appointment with us today and let our friendly dentists help.

Help us help you by "cleaning up" on the regular. Not just the day we're going to see you (we also remember SPRINTING to hide away our toys when we heard our parent's car pull up), but hopefully many times before then! As always, building habits can be hard but it's worth it in the end! Start small with one or two times per week until it becomes second nature! ___... : Take your length of floss and wrap it around your preferred fingers, leaving an inch or two between to manipulate with your thumbs Slide the floss between your teeth and wrap it into a "C" shape around the base of the tooth and gently under the gumline, making sure to keep the floss taught Wipe the tooth from base to tip two or three times; remember to floss both sides of the tooth. Don't forget the backs of your last molars If you haven't flossed in a while, remember that your gums may bleed a little - this should go away in a couple of days. If it doesn't, send us a message! Never put floss in the toilet as it can lead to blockages, and we definitely don't need it out in the waterways; always put it in the bin!
