Waterville and District Volunteer Fire Department 08.10.2020

Family, Friends, Colleagues and neighbouring Fire Departments laid Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department active Deputy Chief, Cathy Cooke to rest. Ca...thy Cooke began serving with the Waterville & District Fire Department in the year of 1980. DC Cooke followed her family footsteps as she moved through the ranks. Like her father, Cathy served as Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain and finally Deputy Chief. Cathy's family was very involved with the Department, her Mother Joyce Rhynold served 20 years with the Fire Departments Auxillary, while her father Murray served 37 years as a firefighter and Deputy Chief. Their family would have been close to 100 years of service. Murray Gillis ( Cathy Cooke's father ) passed away while serving as active Deputy Chief with the Waterville & District Fire Department in 1982. Cathy served 40 dedicated years to the Waterville & District Fire Department, Community and surrounding areas. DC Cooke was one of four females in the County in the 80's. ( Located from a old news paper published in 1984.) To this date Cathy would be the only female in history to serve as active Deputy Chief with the Waterville Fire Department. From Waterville Fire Chief Wayne Johnstone: "I would like to thank the membership of The Waterville & District & the other Valley Departments who attended the Funeral Service for Deputy Chief, Cathy Cooke. I would also like to say thanks to Berwick & Kentville Fire Departments for providing stand in coverage during the Service. Much appreciation to Valley Dispatch ( Daniel Cheeseman ) for the excellent deliverance of the last alarm." Rest Easy DC Cooke, Will Take It From Here.
