A lot of learning and questions come from the process of growing and preserving food: + How did our ancestors handle this labor every year? + How do we grow, preserve, and distribute immune-sparking foods and medicines in a good way?... + How do we support communities in their journey towards food sovereignty and security? and most importantly.... + WHERE DO WE STORE ALL THESE JARS!? If you have any ideas or answers to any of these questions, let us know below

When life gives us lemons, we use every piece. Literally and figuratively - we make the most of everything we're given whether it be grant funding or food donations. Recently, the Wellness Warriors have been busy preserving food in preparation for the winter months. Whether they're dehydrating lemons or pressure cooking nutritious bone broth, there's a lot of time and healing energy that goes into these processes to do anything we can to spark the immune systems of those who need it most - Elders, new mothers, or those struggling with chronic disease.

Wellness Wheel recognizes that food security is an important determinant of health. Over the summer we've been working to provide food with immune-sparking nutrients, grown and harvested with care hydroponically or outdoors, and dispersed among those who need it the most. In preparation for the winter, the remainder of our gardens are being dehydrated, canned, and preserved. Medicines are being grown and gathered. We can't wait to share more about this project

Happy to report Dorothy in Ahtahkakoop has received a food dehydrator, pressure cooker, food saver, and meat grinder which will be used to preserve their community's foods as part of the Wellness Warrior's food security project. Dorothy has worked tirelessly in Ahtahkakoop First Nation's community garden as the Food Security Strategist. With the storage of produce an ongoing issue, these devices allow healthy, immune-sparking natural foods to be preserved and consumed throughout the winter months. Great work, Dorothy!
