What a year it has been. Covid tried to keep us apart but in a lot of ways it brought us together. It made us appreciate what it means to be family. It gave us a new outlook on how special it is being part of a community. Above all, it made us treasure everything we have. ... From our house to yours... enjoy celebrating the New Year and we will see you on the ice in 2021. See more

Hi Everyone! Unfortunately our phone line is down for the moment! If you call the club it will just ring and ring but it is not ringing on our end. I have been told a technician will be here by 5:00pm but we know how that goes! If you need to get a hold of someone, please email [email protected] and I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner!

A little history on the artist that painted the mural in our stairwell at the club. Alex Gigeroff 1931 - 2016 Alex was born in Toronto in 1931 to Macedonian parents. He lived there until age 28 while getting his university education in law.... After his bar exam he moved to Whitby to practice law and undertaking legal work for the Town between 1958 and 1963. Along with his passion for law he also had a love for the arts. In 1959 he painted the mural that is in the south stairwell of the Whitby Curling Club. He was one of the leading figures in the late 1960’s championing for the change in the national consciousness towards crimes against homosexuality. He was interested in bringing more caring and understanding to the judicial system and getting to the root causes instead of throwing the book at offenders. In 1967 he worked closely with Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who was Federal Minister of Justice at that time, to decriminalize homosexuality in Canada. Finally, Alex dream came true and in 1969 the Bill C-150 was passed that homosexuality (for anyone over the age of 21) was no longer a crime. After he received his Ph.D in Criminology and worked at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry in Toronto he moved with his family to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in 1975. At this time he became a leader in the Yarmouth Arts community, an author and a playwright. Many murals of Alex’s can be seen around Yarmouth today. He is survived by his loving sons Andre Haines and Gregory Watters.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stan Forshaw. Stan has been such an instrumental part of our club with being on pretty much every committee and participating in every event. On the ice he was a fierce competitor. During the 1980’s his name got engraved on many trophies. Off the ice he was a true gentleman. A great teammate. And always up for adventure. His commitment to our club left behind a great legacy. Our condolences to his wife Elaine and th...e rest of his family. Our club is better because of Stan. Good curling Stan. See more
