So many summers spent on this beautiful boat called the ‘Lucky Penny’ it was a 34 ft Puget trawler is was perfect... until it was sold. I spent many happy times crabbing and Prawning the octopus were very happy to always tag along in the crab and prawn traps. After that I wanted to get an old fishing trawler and convert it into a floating traveling ceramic studio, with the old fish hold made into the kiln/studio hold. I was going to call it Fresh Craft. This plan never ...came to fruition. So now, as I live so close to the ocean, I’m now reintroducing this name of Fresh Craft with this being the sign- it will be used at the front gate. The name will be made from sculpted shells and driftwood. The old trawler landed in the yard, as a studio over looking the water. This is the underglaze and will be much more brilliant once glazed and fired #trawler #westcoast #salishsea #freshcraft #ceramicstudio #ceramics #bcceramics #crab #octopus #luckypenny
Sometimes it’s really hard to let go of creations...... This large sea Urchin bowl may have to sit with me awhile before it goes to its new home. This series are all pre-sold (that’s a wonderful feeling)... So grateful for being able to turn my love of the West Coast Salish Sea, into a popular dinning and serving wares, as well as hand made tiles. From the first piece I made over 20 years ago. These Sea Urchin bowls originated in 1995 on a long walk on Hanks Beach on Cortes Island, when I found a gem of a shell that I have used for inspiration over the years. Colour’s shape and size vary with each hand sculpted and carved piece. With this latest series destined to be a lavender bluish purplish, with a soft pink interior. A complete set has 3 nesting bowls. Or individual ones and like this one xtra large. As I sit in my new studio mid Vancouver island I can smell the salt air and hear the waves of the beach in front of my home studio. I’m so fortunate to have my pups lounging by my feet. I’m overflowing with inspiration. Thank you for helping to get here . #westcoast #seaurchin #salishsea #ceramics #whitedogstudios #ceramicstudio #oceanview #beachlife #vanislemade #gratitude #ceramicart
