White Rock Sea Tours assisted Surrey fire department at 6pm this evening who responded for technical rescue to assist this woman stuck at the top of a sailboat mast where she had been doing some work. We were able to provide illumination as fire lowered the woman to the ground.

A new study estimates there's more than 14 million metric tons of microplastics sitting on the ocean floor - 35x originally expected. What sits on the ocean floor is only a fraction of what is dumped into the oceans annually. It’s so important that we find solutions to stop plastic pollution and cut our plastic use!
A little humpback breach on this Sunday!
A glimpse of a humpback whale from a tour this weekend. Happy Humpday Wednesday!
We are sometimes criticized for voicing our support for commercial whale-watching, but this video shows you why. In our latest episode of "OBI Relections" we ta...ke you to the west side of San Juan Island for a comparison of boater behavior when Pacific Whale Watch Association boats are present and when they are not. You have between now and November 13th to submit your comments on the draft rules from the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife on a new commercial whale watch licensing program, which is currently considering a partial moratorium on viewing of the Southern Residents (for ONLY whale-watch vessels, the only vessels they are authorized to restrict) for up to 9 months of the year. We support the presence of a small number of commercial operators with the whales year-round, in part because of their role as sentinels, keeping private boaters from having high-risk infractions and modeling safe, legal viewing behavior.

BREAKING! DFO has just announced fish farms won't be removed from the Discovery Islands as recommended by the Cohen Commission. They claim fish farms pose minim...al risk to migrating wild salmon, yet numerous studies show fish farms can infect wild salmon with dangerous diseases and parasitic lice. (DFO did not even consider lice infection in their risk assessments despite mounting evidence that it’s a serious problem!) DFO is a textbook example of a government agency captured by industry. Wild salmon returns are at record lows and DFO is failing to protect them. This is not over! See more
Some playful porpoises! As always, it's important to be whale - and porpoise wise. These guys wanted a race!
